Good Day Ladies,

Having seen my 'A New Experience' forum post turn into a lively chat about classic cars, I wondered if anyone would be interested in a forum (such as this one) where we can talk about our cars, the cars we once had and the cars we admire?

I have a 1978 Triumph Spitfire myself and always enjoy cruising in  that car.

I have driven the car wearing a skirt several times, but not yet in full women's attire. I have to find a suitable silk scarf (or some such) to wear over my hair so it does not get too tangled up then I am considering attending one of the car shows as Aurora. I have yet to do this, but have been thinking about it today. There are a lot of people that I know that go to such shows and I have been thinking to just show up as Aurora. From my experiences so far, I'm sure that such a venture would go well.

What say you then, girls?

Hi Danielle,

Thank you for your reply. Two hot cars for sure.

I can understand your reluctance to drive them while dressed. I have similar thoughts about driving the Spitfire as Aurora, especially with the top down... which is how I always drive it unless caught out in the rain.

I drive my Nissan fully dressed all the time and have even been to the post office and stores in the village where I live. It seems unreasonable then to have reservations about driving the Spitfire as Aurora. I'm sure by now most people have seen me anyway.

Hi Aurora, I have noticed that the chat in the chat room often turns to cars and it always seems to be a fun time. I would think it might be a popular forum. Unfortunately I don’t own I single fun girl car but I know some girls here have them.

hugs

Hi Annabeth,

Thank you for your reply.

I always think that a Mini Cooper is a good girl car. The original and the new BMW versions.

One of my fantasies is to be a Mod Girl down Carnaby Street in the 'Sixties. Driving my Mini Cooper SS, of course.

It is not uncommon for women to be seen driving every type of car including open top sports cars. The womens attitude today is about lifestyle and status over riding the use the car was made for. Hence school mums rocking up to deliver one small child in a Humvee or driving around a puddle of water in the road in a 4x4. It is generally males that are more interested in the technicalities and about 'grunt'.

I drive all the time dressed and have been fortunate to have had advanced driver training and love to outdrive a performance car through bends by setting the car up right as the majority of drivers of these cars have straight line speed but no clue how to actually drive . I love seeing their faces as I come out of bends or roundabouts still ahead of them or over take them coming out as they see a woman has outdriven them in an average car. One Mercedes driver was so pissed he booted it at the wrong point and nearly lost the back end and saw him swerving up the road to regain control, priceless.

Personally it isn't my thing but can see the merit in having a forum dedicated to petrol heads as sadly it will become extinct as the soulless electric car takes over and the sound of a V8 becomes history so enjoy it while you can.

I’ve owned 8 vehicles to this point. All were purchased new except for one. All were manual transmissions, 4-speed, 5-speed and my MINI is a 6-speed.

  1. ’72 Honda 600 Coupe
  2. ’70 Lotus +2S, purchased used
  3. ’75 Fiat 131 Brave 2-door sedan
  4. ‘80 Chevrolet Citation 4-door hatchback
  5. ’84 VW Quantum
  6. ’90 Nissan Maxima SE 4-door
  7. ’94 Isuzu Trooper 4-door
  8. ’09 factory John Cooper Works MINI Clubman
  • The Honda was a nod to the original Mini. The 600 Sedan version looked essentially like  Mini. Engine was an aluminum air-cooled 2-cylinder with a common sump shared by the engine, transmission and differential. 36 horsepower! It met with a telephone pole on a snowy day.
  • I’ve always loved Lotuses and a big fan of the late Colin Chapman. Surprisingly quick car for only 110-115 horsepower, but VERY light (~2000lb if I remember correctly).
  • The Fiat was a very straightforward, good handling car with adequate power. It was done when a tree fell on it.
  • Never really liked the Citation. No performance at all, rear brakes had a tendency to lock, broke the synchro rings in the transmission but repaired under warranty.
  • The Quantum had the Audi 5-cylinder drivetrain; slickest shifting transmission I’ve ever had with very short throws. However, the Germans are a bit quirky. The power door locks worked by vacuum. Odd thing was that I broke the clutch pedal. For some reason there was a hole drilled laterally above the rubber pad. It broke and fell to the floor. Became adept at shifting without the clutch until I could afford to have it fixed.
  • The Maxima SE was billed as the 4 Door Sports Car and no argument from me! Torquey 3L V-6, pleasant but well managed suspension and a very good traveling car. Bose sound system was EXCELLENT!
  • The Trooper was a boxy large intermediate size SUV. 4WD was very handy when needed in New York State!
  • The Clubman is a bullet! Turbo DOHC 1.6L 4-cylinder with 208 horsepower. Top speed = 147mph, 0-60 in 6.5sec. It wasn’t terribly long ago that this was super car territory, yet I have a 2-piece sunroof, nice 4-speaker stereo w/ cell phone connection, automatic climate control and surprisingly large cargo space. It has been on track at Watkins Glen and Thermal Motorsports Park. The term “factory” is used to distinguish the factory only option from the port or dealer installed JCW kit. The upgraded JCW parts in my car were only available factory installed and were internal parts. The earlier JCW kit was external parts, but there were internal parts that could be purchased that were not part of the kit. The original JCW kit was developed by John Cooper and his son, Mike (actually John Michael Cooper but called Mike to not be confused with his father).

Besides street cars, I’ve also driven a Legends car, what used to be a NASCAR Busch Series car and a NASCAR Pavement Modified.

Yes, MAJOR car person and have been since at least the age of 9…

The loss of a throaty engine is what I will miss most from electric cars*. However, many modern ICE cars are so quiet that I can't hear a difference anyway.

* The distinct, throaty sound of a Mercedes G-class or a 1986-7 Grand National will always make my head turn, to take a look.

I haven't owned too many cars so far, and it is only recently that I've driven a few times as Wendy.

My very first car was a 77 aspen wagon, good ol' slant six.   Rather underpowered for a big heavy car but the engine itself was durable but never liked the rain (reason why I will never drive another carbed vehicle again).

Second vehicle was an 87 Horizon, 5 speed.  I drove it during my time going to university.  It was a great car, would start up in -27 degree temps unplugged, and was quite reliable.  The 5 speed was great in the city.   It still had the original clutch/transmission even after 194 500 kms on the clock.

After I graduated and started earning some $$$, I decided it was time to buy a new car.  I bought a 98 breeze, but only drove it for a few years before trading it in.  It was an ok car, but I really wanted a truck but was persuaded by my parents that a car was more suitable.  After paying it off I decided it was time to get into that truck.

So i then traded in a brand new car for a used 95 dakota, 4wd.  I would've preferred a full size but at that time $$$ was tight so this was all I could afford.  Yes it goes thru gas like nobody's business, but hey, I knew what I was getting into.  I had a few mods put into it, like an m1 intake manifold, bilstein shocks (factory ones weren't to my liking ride wise), roadmaster active suspension, and a cooler t-stat.

After a few more years my wife and I decided it was time to get a 2nd vehicle, and we bought a used 00 liberty.  Only made done to the liberty was a 3 inch suspension lift (spacers as it was a budget lift), with bilstein shocks.

Yes, we have 2 4wd vehicles, as winters here can be brutal and the last thing I want is to be stuck somewhere in the snow.  I know that both suck back gas like there is no tomorrow, but the trade off is being able to plow thru snow that will stop a small car in its tracks.

These last 2 recent vehicles I have driven as Wendy.   I am still learning how to gracefully get into a high vehicle without showing the goods, as I wear short skirts while driving.  So far, I'm still learning how to enter/exit a high vehicle gracefully.

Alas, both vehicles are now past the 20 year old mark.  My wife and I have talked about downsizing to one vehicle, and buying a new vehicle but so far nothing in the works.  I want something unique on the road, and the gladiator has really caught my attention.  Don't see too many 4wd vehicles with solid axles up front anymore, most are now ifs.

Having a forum to discuss our cars and living in car culture as a CD or transwoman would be great. I'm a car person and I've had a number of sports cars. Learning how to get in and out of a low slung car wearing a dress or skirt has certainly been an experience. Driving a car with a stick in heels is also interesting too. I have to say that there were times driving my Z when dressed to the nines that I felt like a total bad bitch! Next, I want to start hitting local cars and coffee events again as myself.

I used to own a Porsche 911. It was fun to drive.  My current car is a Ford Focus ST with manual tranny. After driving a stick all my life I am ready for an automatic.

Hi Lauren,

Yes, it would be interesting to share our experiences with cars we own and have owned.

Also, experiences of driving as our true selves, driving in heels, how to get in and out of the car etc.

For myself, I sit in the driving seat first and then bring both legs into the  car together. That is the same way I get into my Triumph Spitfire and it is a low slung car.

Does anyone have experiences of being pulled over by the police? For routine checks or other occasions.

My MINI was purchased in August of 2009. DeeAnn the crossdresser first appeared in December of 2014. DeeAnn the trans woman came out publicly on October 10, 2015. Therefore, my MINI is the only car to have been driven by DeeAnn.

Yes, MINIs are also low, so it is the “sit and rotate” technique with your knees together. However, when I am tired, it tends to be “Just Get Out Of The Car!?!?” without any hint of propriety.

In the early days of crossdressing, I was stopped by law enforcement. At about 1 in the morning on a Sunday, I was returning to my home in Corning, NY from a monthly CD/TG gathering in Rochester, NY. I was planning to stop for a coffee at a McDonalds in a little town at about 1/2 distance. In driving through the town, I missed a traffic light. There’s more detail, but I posted the description here a few years ago and am too lazy to recount it.

These days I am dressed virtually 100% of the time, so it’s DeeAnn and her MINI…

Hi Aurora.  Thank you for your post.  I am definitely into cars.  I know I would for sure enjoy a private discussion group.  There was a photo some time of one of us in front of their prized car.  It would be fun to see more.

Thanks for the suggestion Aurora.  We're looking into creating a forum for car enthusiasts.  Stay tuned.
