I have a couple Friday evening drinking buddies and all of us are gay. I texted one finding out where we were meeting and asked if he minded if I came dressed. He politely said he did and that was the end of that. My other friend is more receptive, and actually gave me a decent critique. So that prompted me to go shopping for tops.
So the crux of this topic is do you go and shop in local stores? I do, and go in with confidence and ask for help if needed. I found three shirts, one a v-neck like my friend recommended (in the exact color I will have on my fingernails and lips), another top more like a tee shirt and a cute peasant top.
I wasn't worried about someone asking why I was in that part of the store. Plus I will drive out of my way if what I'm looking for is local, as I prefer to keep my money local too. I only go online when I've exhausted my local options.
I love shopping full stop. Most of the shops are branded but I will try to support the independents who may have something more unique. Due to the pandemic more of us have gone online and accelerated the demise of the town shopping malls here in the U.K.
Like you, I will only go online to get what I can't get locally.
Shopping is better than online. Looking at the clothes and trying them on is a joy. It's a nice social event if you are with others.
Sorry to hear your friends negative response but, hey, you are you and only live once.
Hi Yumi,
Getting Dressed and going shopping is one of my favorite pastimes; I do it too often, and I buy too many clothes...but it's too much fun to stop. I will ask for help when needed, but that doesn't happen often, and if something I like is not on the rack in my size, I will ask to have it ordered and sent to me. I have shopped while in drab, but no longer do so; I want to be able to use the ladies' dressing rooms.
Hugs,
Bettlyou
I love to shop too! I go almost every Saturday I love trying on clothes. I have some girl friends I go shopping with (I’m the only trans in the group, helps to blend in) sometimes and we make a day of it. Last week we got manis and pedis together then went to lunch and shopped for a few hours. I bought the cutest pink and white striped shorts with matching top. I had to get matching pink bra and panties lol.
It’s sad to see some of the stores close since COVID. Some of the smaller shops that I really liked have gone away. I miss the personal touch at one store, they would always call me by name when coming in and knew my sizes and preferences.
