Just had an interesting experience.  I tweaked my back moving my turkey around yesterday (I have an old work injury that occasionally gets aggravated and I sometimes lift at stupid angles) and was in a good deal of pain.  Not emergency-room levels of pain but more than the "background noise" of aches and pains by a long shot.  For unrelated reasons I found myself in stiletto heels (I believe once one corrects for platform they were about five inches) later in the day and the pain was gone until I took them off, more than 12 hours later.  Now granted I tend to consume a bit of alcohol when I dress, and had stepped up the ibuprofen when the incident occurred, but it got me curious.

A quick google search later and apparently I'm not alone.  There are even doctors saying that wearing high heels can help with lower back pain.  Granted there are also doctors saying they *cause* lower back pain so verdict's out on that.

Anyways, I'm experimenting with wearing heels when I'm at home (as I'm still very much a closet dresser) and so far the pain seems to be better with them on than off.  Though the higher heels seem yield more drastic results.

Am I crazy or has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Val’sheril,

I don’t think you are crazy at all! I have a smushed disk in my back. It presses on a nerve and has caused all kinds of phantom pains from my hip down to the bottom of my foot. I have gotten help with physical therapy that had worked wonders, but there was always just a bit of pain, or discomfort that would come and go. I have only had the opportunity to wear my heels 👠 when I do my exercises for the last six months to a year. (Home gym, closet gurl.) I just put them on and walk a few laps in between other exercises for 3-4 sets. I have also noticed improvements with my back pain. Also thought I was crazy at first, but if you think about it you bend your back similarly in some PT exercises, as you do to properly walk in your heels.
I was told by one of my PT’s that the back bend exercises I was doing was smushing the disc back into shape, taking pressure off of the nerve. So now wearing heels is another PT exercise. We can call it a pink fog exercise!

One wonders how much of this is simply taking pressure off the usual spots and redistributing it (from an engineering standpoint that would seem to make sense).  But whatever the case it seems to sometimes work.

Pink fog exercise indeed!  Oh woe is me having to wear heels more! 😉

Interesting.  Now if only there was a female clothing piece that would alleviate arthritis!

Sometimes I have light pain in my lower right back and yes, I noticed that when doing my walks in heels it tend to go away while when walking in flats it tend to come back.

Like you I checked internet and got the same mixed message, sometimes it helps and other it makes it worse. I guess it depends on what kind of pain, how you walk and how long the walk is.

For now I just enjoy that as the excuse to take long walks in heels 🙂

Hi Val'sheril!

No! You're not crazy at all!

Ever since I upped my spike-game about three years ago, I haven't had my yearly bout of back spasms! I've even noticed my ankles, calves and thighs seem stronger too!

One good workout I've learned that strengthen your leg muscles and improves your posture is to pick something up from the floor like a girl. So, instead of spreading your legs and then reaching down between them to pick up a pencil like a guy, I will instead put both heeled feet together and then slowly reach down on one side to pick it up. Your thighs will burn! Don't forget to practice both sides to keep things even.

I had knee surgery last year and it took over 8 months to wear just my 3" heels comfortably. But when I was able to put my 6 inchers on a feeling of calm and 'ok, everything's gonna be alright' came over me. Amber was back in full force.

Be safe. Love and Peace.

Hi..

I must agree....

I dont get any pain when wearing heels...for however long....I'm guessing it's because we totally change our stance to wear them....

What I do find amusing, is that virtually any film or TV you watch ...the woman gets home, kicks off her heels and rubs her feet...muttering thank god!!!.......

yet we can't seem to wait to put them on!!!!!

Grace xx

Yes, I've noticed this too.

I have a little bubble of fluid in my spine that continually presses down on the discs, so, when one crumbles a bit as they do naturally as you get older (the process starts around age 35), if the pressure gets to a nerve, I can be immobilised by pain.

I had it all explained to me, with a walkthrough of an MRI scan, by a very informative consultant at John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford.

As I had to take some time off the first couple of times it happened, I discovered the heels effect, when I felt well enough to walk around, and CD.

The stretch on the calves and thighs, and the position my back was put into was wonderful!

As you say, you also are forced to bend differently, which also worked wonders, and I believe helps me to recover more quickly.

I'm not a doctor though, so usual disclaimers apply - you only get one back, girls - look after it!

Hi Val'sheril. Wouldn't that be funny if your Drs prescription for your back pain included walk a mile in 4" stilettos once a day. I can hear it now from my wife as she leaves for the day. Don't forget to get out and walk a mile in your new heels. That is something i would never forget  I do agree wearing heels for even a couple of hours changes how you stand a walk, maybe there is something to it, I wish.

Luv Stephanie

I don't know anything about wearing heels helping with back pain. I love wearing heels but if I wear them too long my feet hurt.

I had a great excuse I gave my wife once for wearing nylons and sleeping in a silky nightgown. It made my sunburn feel better.

Not sure about physical therapy, but wearing heels do absolute wonders for my mental health *giggles*

I guess the test here would be to wear them again next time your injury flares up and see if you get the same result.

I just love wearing heels and pantyhose. They are so wonderfully and splendidly femme. I've been wearing both since I was 4. For sexy legs, looking their best, pantyhose and heels are inseparable.

I love the experience of walking in heels and the sensation of silky pantyhose gently caressing my legs when I do. It's such a wonderful femme experience. I love being a crossdresser.
