Hi ladies
Yesterday morning my beloved left early by (supplied) bus for a ladies fashion show.(Yes I know… why could’nt I go too!!) So Caty gets herself moving, (still in male pj’s mind) and gets stuck into her laundry in the hope that by the time I returned from a normal Monday morning men’s group meeting, all Caty’s “smalls” were nice and dry. Great theory and it worked very well. But after hanging “all of the above” on the line the lock on the back security screen door dropped down and I could not get back in the house!!
The idea of missing my meeting did not appeal and being stuck out there for four hours with a line full of Caty’s washing was not smart either .Especially if it was still there when the "Boss” got home… With her sister in tow as well…Who of course knows nothing about Caty!!
So I “copped it” for punching a hole in the fly wire and letting myself in….What would any of you done in the same situation....???
Cest la (CD) vie!!

Your experience is a very good reason I am glad that all of the doors in my bungalow require a key to lock them and therefore I can not be accidentally locked out particularly if I slip out into the back garden dressed femme
Rachel
In the past, I have used a knife to cut the screen along the frame near the latch or lock. That way I can run a bead of clear silicone to seal the cut and save the screen. Hardly noticeable. 🙂

Both my front & back door require a key to lock them, so not much chance of being locked out. When I go out I usually have once key in my coat and another in my handbag - just in case I loose one . I'm considering adding a key safe as well.
Ah yes Rachel,
You may have had the option of keying all your doors, but we are not the original occupants here and the "offending opening", being a rear entry, does not have an external lock. Yes a nice knife slit down the side of the wire would have been good, but the only available "break and enter" tool "ATM" was a small garden fork.
And with all those "smalls" on the line and my wish to "vacate the premises" asap for my meeting, to keep up the "quotes"..... "necessity was the mother of invention".

One time, was going to the movies, I got locked out, but not by my fault, and keys were in side the home.
I tried to open a window by prying with a knife, bent it. Tried other ideas, a neighbor came over and said to break a window (really?) finally got fed up,,had to call a locksmith, who showed up 2 hours later and opened the door in 2 seconds later .
Hi Caty,
I think you did the right thing sweety.
I think fly wire is the Aussie version of window screen.
I locked myself out of the house once in the attached garage with my little daughter by my side.
I had to climb up through the attic access in the garage and crawl across the ceiling to come down through the closet attic access very quickly so my daughter wouldn't get into any mischief in the garage mind you.
a few bumps and bruises due to the speed of things.
so I can relate.
Great story thanks for sharing
