I listen to a lot of conservative news, and have heard of a supposative trans young person assulting a young girl in a High School in Virginia. First thing is if anyof this is close to true this person should be locked up and not allowed a chance to do it again.
My main reason for bringing this up is this young person has set our cause back to almost zero in a lot of places. To many people are going to think that most crossdressers and trans persons are preditors or just CREEPS.
I know for me I have been walking the local mall often recently and at 67 find I need to use the facilities to often. I try to find the ladies room that is not very busy, go in and take care of business and get out.
I feel for many of us we are representing the crossdressing community and maybe the only CD person a lot of people will meet for a long time. Now I've been told I 'pass' and I look in the mirror and I think I do much of the time ( but not so much my voice).
Sometimes I feel a heavy weight and sometime I am proud of myself out there representing the trans community in my local area.

Cassie, I’d like to put a different side to this and hope nobody takes offence. When you’ve been in public and had to heed the call of nature, have you ever had to use the men’s and has there been any reaction? Conversely any reaction in using the ladies?

Cassie,

If I told you that there's an election in Virginia right now, and that one candidate was sinking in the polls before he introducing the red meat in this one single issue to bash the whole trans community, would that surprise you?

The accused student, according to his lawyer is 'not necessarily' going to self identify as trans, he wasn't supposed to be in the restroom anyway (they were still deciding on access policy at that point), and that his second attack had nothing to do with rest rooms and happened in a classroom. He sounds bad news.

Yes this is terrible for the girls involved. But there's rapists in any community - be they hetero male, gay, priests, politicians. Somehow this is a national tragedy and one side of the political divide dumps on the trans community to get elected. Shameless.

OK, there's still more to come out of this story, but it won't happen till after the election. Till then one side will play the 'trans people are the spawn of the devil' card.

If you want to improve trans rights in the states, don't apologise for a dubious scenario involving a single trans perpetrator, just don't vote for anti trans politicians. Simples.

Hi Elizabeth, I have a different problem.

Often when I use the men's restroom (when I'm dressed in drab) men who are in there tell me that I'm in the wrong restroom, the ladies is next door.  That's because I have such feminine features and very long natural hair, I'm misgendered as female a lot,  and it drives my wife crazy.  The other day I was in a department store and I was just about to go into the men's washroom and a lady store clerk yelled at me that I was going into the wrong bathroom.  I guess, as a CD, this is a good problem to have.  Hugs, Krista.

Marti, the views on trans is not my deciding who to vote for. I just think that if most people got to know each of us as persons, outside of our trans identity, they would not feel threatened in any way. The way that incident is presented to many is a shame, thanks for enlightening me on some of the detail I didn't know.

Hi Krista thanks for your reply. I hope I’m not being offensive, I just like to know if any of you girls had encountered. I’m glad Krista you’ve given us an experience you encountered. Very rarely Ive ventured out en fem. I must be over 40 years except going to a Halloween party. I’m wondering if any girl had to reluctantly enter the men’s and encountered any hostility or any when using the ladies? What do you think of gender neutral toilets?
Hugs

Hi Cassie,

Thanks for your response. I'm not being rude, just not adding any more. I've probably overstepped the mark anyway.

Most of us have several “communities” within which we fall.  For me, among many are:  Catholic, veteran, retired, law enforcement, administrator, white, middle-class, reader, progressive/moderate thinker, and (yes) crossdresser.  Many of us, as well, participate in groups or gatherings wherein people express opinions, often uninformed, or biases about others.  When those opinions are expressed about things that define us we are generally faced with choices about whether we should better “inform” the group.  I often choose to do just that.  For me I’ve found it pretty compelling when I tell others that never, in my 30 years of LE, have I found crossdressers or transgendered persons to be predators.  Most do not know how truly informed I am on the subject.  For us here, I’d offer that regardless of the accuracy of reporting on the assault matter, I’m confident that the young man does not resemble any actual CD or transgendered person I know of.

No, you aren't.
I think like many others here do...this is a heart breaking thing to read.
We would be wrong to ignore it or not discuss it.

It is events like this that outlets like to go to town on - because someone claims they are trans and commits such an awful act, it can have the effect of resetting our progress back many decades.

In reading several accounts, I speculate that the perpetrator here does not represent the trans community I know. I would not accept this person's claim that they are transgender. The perpetrator described here is a sexual predator.

The trans people I know would never consider such a thing let alone do it. Anyone on the MTF spectrum - at any level - would never consider such violence as it hurts a sister.

Lastly, do not let the media off the hook here...they love click bait and just love to divide the masses in the name of ratings and thusly profits. I would be derelict in my duties as a thinker if I didn't ask what the writers and editors have inserted here.

I'm down with the idea that there is something shady involved...I really am.
Nothing happens in this world by coincidence...
