I doubt I am 100% passable and have never concerned myself about it. However, I do strive to look my best. Moreover, I speak in my normal male voice, when out in public.
I receive compliments, mostly from women, sometimes from men. This tells me my presentation on that particular day is pleasing to some people in the public.
If I smile, am polite, and act lady-like, I find this can also have its rewards and also promotes the public image of CDs.
My point? Come on out ladies! All the better if you can find another CD to go with but even if you have to go it alone, come on out. Times have changed. Unlike decades ago, the public is so much more accepting now and don't let being "passable" stop you!
You are right Peggy! I could pass with minimal effort in my youth, but around 30 or so the age bomb hit. I sometimes get called female pronouns from behind as I have long hair and love to wear barrettes and bows. I just go out as me and if they don't like it, who cares?
It is usually the women that tell me I look good, and how bold I am. Rarely get cat-calls but I just smile and say something like: "Sorry boys, I am already taken!"
Hi Peggy
I applaud your enthusiasm and understand wanting to encourage girls to go out, however its not aways possible for everyone to go out in public for a long list of reasons.
Like you, I often go out dressed and do things like shopping and sight seeing on my own or with my partner, however many can't enjoy that luxury.
What we can do it keep writing about our adventures and give tips on how to overcome certain aspects of dressing which can help others who are able to step out of their front door into the big blue yonder.
This will help others in many ways, to show we are doing things (like an armchair traveller) and inform them on how we mange with situations; Then - if (and its a big if ) things improve or their situation changes our sisters will have the knowledge available to take that first tentative step over the threshold in stye.

Hi Peggy Sue.
I agree with you but I also agree with Dawn too....
I would love every girl on this site ....indeed, every " girl " worldwide, to get out there...right now!!!.
but we all have slightly different circumstances and reasons why we can and cannot " fly the nest".
In the meantime, I think the girls that get out and about owe it to all the rest to keep telling of our outings, and maybe, just maybe, it will chip away at their indecision and boost their confidence.....
Also, if every time someone gets out for the first time, they tell their story....more help and yet another boost for the " rest in the nest"....

It's true that there has never been a better time, if you feel ready.
Do think through the consequences, and whether you're personally prepared for them, and any potential knock-on effects on loved ones - that's probably the main thing.
Do talk to those important to you if you feel the need to spread your wings - even if you only get sufferance, it's worth it!
Coming out and going out may seem hard, but it's much harder, once you've been out, to stay put.
