Hello lovelies,

There's a saying. "The third time's the charm".

Well it worked for me today. There's been a few (UK) posts about making use of the Boots No7 Pro Derm Scan service. So I thought I'd give it a go, being not quite sure if I'd go through with it

The nearest Boots shop is a bit too small for it.  The second time I chose a bigger store , and sure enough, they had a counter. This time I couldn't see anyone womanning the counter, so I went off shopping and tried again later. And when I got back, she was there, but with a customer, and I decided not to form a quesue of one.

This time, yet another store, which was on the way as I drove home from a friend. And bingo!

Yes, I was a bit nervous. In fact that's how I started the conversation "I'm a little bit nervous but what I want is ...". And yes, in hindsight, it's not the biggest deal in the world. She could not have been nicer. She sat me down, used the machine to analyse my skin. She wasn't rushed, wasn't bothered. I was just another customer. She asked questions. Some were quite hard, I was more than willing to defer to her opinion,  but she was equally determined to get it right for me. The bottom line was something quite light and natural that I could use in everyday life, and a concealer to match.  And there was a 3 for 2 offer, so I chose  a blusher too.

What a great little expedition ! And the icing on the cake was a nice black and grey sweater dress in a nearby shop that was in the sale, 2/3 off. I distinctly heard it say "Buy me!".

It's fun, isn't it? Ideally you go back every three or four months to ensure you get the best colour match for your foundation. I went from Latte (November) to Hazel (now).

If they have your email (and I realise that not everyone will want to give that) they'll email you the results of the Pro Derm Scan too. As well as all the info about the state of your skin (hydration, oiliness, porosity etc) it will give you a list of the exact products that go with your Foundation. I found it really useful.

For me, I was in a slightly awed state, so a good half of what I was told went in one ear, encountered a void and quickly escaped through the other ear . My hydration count was very low, surprise surprise. I hadn't thought until you said, but a copy of the results would have been good. I'd have happily shared an email but she didn't ask and now I've already forgotten her name. Never  mind, an excuse to revisit in the future.

I think it may have been one of your posts that first made me aware of this service, so extra thanks to you Ellie.

CDs can use a good e-mail forwarding service and can keep their real addresses anonymous. The new address can be given out safely to businesses, acquaintances, and stores, etc., to hide your identity.

I use and recommend duck.com. When I reply, only my duck.com address is used and, with a bit more work, you can initiate sending through the service, too.

Business => duck.com => you

I should have read this before asking you about it in a pm! Sounds great though, eM, glad it went well.

For me, it was as much about doing something "normal" that, beforehand, felt like anything but! And the more we and others do it, the more normal it becomes to see it.

@emmat I don't know exactly what this can is, but is there anything similar in North America?  I presume that the company  would need to be a big chain, to be able to offer the service.

I think there must be, it looks like boots is half owned by walgreen. I'll send a PM link to the us page i found that describes the process.

@emmat OK, I  searched for "Walgreens scan" and they have two related tools.  The same No7 and...

"SkinID
An online tool that analyzes skin conditions and provides personalized skincare routines"

I have to walk across the border soon, so I will check the chain out.

Thank you, Emma!

Satisfaction on two counts! Curiously about you skin tones and type. And your shopping/ bargaining genes! Excellent outing, Emma! 🥰

I'm glad that you enjoyed the No7 experience. I've done it twice now. Just brilliant. They are really helpful. If you tell them you want a look for a party, they will do that and use more colour and go a bit more glam.... I've not done that yet, but my next visit might be that time 😉

Did you go en femme? I always do. I find browsing make up in male mode slightly irksome. Going as Cerys seems less obvious 🙂

The No.7 waterproof mascara in the sparkly blue tube doesn't come off!!! The stay perfect dual action lipsticks are very long wearing, and can be a bugger to get off. I practically live as Cerys, so things like this are important 😉

I've been five times now:

  • the initial Pro Derm Scan to work out my foundation shade.
  • a lesson on eye make up for a general daytime look.
  • a lesson on eye make up for a glam evening look (which they call the 'Sparkly Eyes' session).
  • a lesson and colour match for lipstick and its application.
  • a 'Your Complexion Your Way' session for general skincare and an update on my correct Foundation shade.

I had a lovely time at each.

I don't present as a woman irl, notwithstanding the earrings, jewellry, jeans and top from the womens 'neutral' racks. She didn't bat an eyelid.

This is something I must do!  A lot of my make-up is approaching the end of its working life (coming up to a year since it was purchased) even though I don't use most of it very often.  The things I do use regularly, I could do with optimising for my skin, and knowing that everything else was fully compatible with them would be even better 🙂

I've been using No 7 since its introduction years ago at Walgreen's and like it.  Marg

Always been my go to from the start. Good products, great staff, plenty of offers and bonus points on the card to exchange for goods - win -win- win.
