Being 6'2" with feet like Sideshow Bob shoes have always been something of a non starter for me. As I never planned to go out in full dress & didn't want to draw any undue attention either, the last thing I thought I needed was more height. Also the cost of shoes for those of us with larger feet has always been too high to contemplate without the benefit of actually wearing them.

A few weeks ago though things changed when I was thumbing through reddit & came across a post where someone was showing off a new outfit & boots & she commented that they had come from a company called Zalando who had a good range of larger sizes & were reasonably priced. Later on I had a look at the site & was quite surprised by what they did have & the prices were very good indeed. I decided that the time was right to give some heels a go & put in an order for some nice black suede ankle boots with a 3" block heel (pic on my profile if you are interested).

My one previous experience of heels was squeezing into a pair of Mrs B's stilettos & wobbling around like a drunken catwalk model. It was hilarious but not very elegant so I decided that block heels would be a good starting point. Anyway, the goods arrived post haste & were very nice, good quality, they fitted well & excellent value for money. I decided that I would need to get some practice in to avoid that clompy gait that inexperienced wearers can sometimes give off. There is nothing more clockable than a guy in heels who can't "walk the walk".

At this point I have been wearing them all day every day for a week (which shows how comfortable they are) & I am surprised by just how quickly I have got used to them, so much so in fact that when I took them off last night it felt weird walking in bare feet. I am now so comfortable in them that I am considering some stilettos already! I have my eye on some rather fabulous Sneaker High Heels from a website called Missy Rockz. They are a bit pricey but once again they have a size that fits & they look amazing.

Anyway, if you, like me have struggled with finding good shoes at a reasonable price I would recommend having a look at the Zalando site.

X

Sasha

Oh great. More temptation when I've been wisely advised, by my wife, not to buy anything else. At least for a while. I wonder what constitutes a mutually acceptable "while"...

@alexina Oops! my apologies to your wife, Still they were only 30 quid so it's not so bad really.

According to google "a while" is a period of time until you are ready & quite a while is "it may go into several weeks" so anything less than several weeks should be good 👍

Well, we're decided that we'd go to Perth later today and she then adds, "We can look in Matalan, they've got nice clothes" Go figure, as the saying goes....

@alexina Well, I guess that answers the definition of "a while" then. Best foot forward & all that.

@sashabennett Sasha, how lovely that you've found some shoes that work for you. My personal perspective is that stilettos are the ultimate girly footwear. Go on girl, give them a try! Heck I can't actually walk in them but so much fun trying. Without wishing to gloat, despite being 6'00 and 190 lbs I take a UK size 7 or 8 so normal ladies outlets are accessible to me. I also have tiny hands, which makes my keyboard playing a challenge. No extrapolating any other extremity sizes please 😂xx.

@chrisfp99 Lucky you, I wish I had that many options but at least I now have two. Big feet don't help but hands like shovels were good for my attempts at classical gas on the ol geetaar. Now I have nails that's rather scuppered that though. Good for the picking hand, terrible for string depressing. I'm still tempted by the sneaker heels. Looking online they seem to split the room, some like them some hate them but in my opinion, with the right casual outfit they look great. I don't think they would go with a ball gown but then I don't get to go to many balls so maybe..... I'm just a bit worried that stilettos will put dents in my newly installed lino so I am mulling that one over for now.

Sasha, I did exactly that, the first time I went in my kitchen wearing stilettos so I found and bought some "Heel protectors". The pack I got has three or four different sizes to suit different heels. They fit over the bottom of the heel and have a flat, round bottom that also protects cushion flooring. If you can't find them, I'll send a link in a pm.

@alexina Well I never, what will they think of next! Thanks for the tip, there seem to be plenty on amazon so no excuses now (other than the shoes I have my eye on are out of stock right now).

@sashabennett Thanks for the tip! I'm about 1/2 inch short than you and take a size 12 shoe.

I mostly wear Long Tall Sally or Gizelle shoes and also have 3 pairs of Irregular Choice. I will certainly be in the market for Zalando.

As I've been a runner for years, I have very strong calf muscles and can walk comfortably in heels and wear them all day - the hard part is sizing.

Thanks and Hugs,

Anna xx

@annaredhead Hope you can find something, mine were 10 1/2 & that's the biggest I saw but then I was only looking for ankle boots so maybe there are different sizes in the other categories. I will investigate your other options so thanks for that, I've always had a thing for shoes anyway, I think I have more than Mrs B as it stands so this is just another opportunity to add to my collection. Don't think I'll try running in them though (or anything else for that matter) I'm more of an ambler. 😏

@sashabennett That’s great you’ve found some heels that fit. Not sure your size but dsw has a pretty good selection up to 12 . Once I got my first pair of heels it started something and now I have a pretty nice collection of shoes and boots.  I did apologize to my wife for all the times I asked her “ why do you have so many pairs of heels”. As now I know ! lol. Happy shoe shopping Sasha .

@cdashley Lovely! more options, thank you. I will check them out. I know all about shoe collections as I have a pretty big one anyway. It all started with a shop window in Barbados which had literally hundreds of styles & colours on display. I came back from holiday with 3 new pairs & have been adding to them ever since. I'm going to need a new shoe cupboard at this rate...

Thanks for the tip. So sad that it's not available in USA, though. You lucky Brits.  😛

@orcharddwee That's a shame, I'm sure you will be able to find something over there though.

@sashabennett I'm having luck on Amazon. I'm a firm believer in "search and ye shall find" so I'll always search for something to wrap up my clodhoppers with.
