Hi Everyone !
I left work early on Friday because my wife had 104 fever and other flu like symptoms. As it turned out she has a virus but not corona or the flu. What I learned from a friend is that if you have symptoms that you should call your doctor first, describe your symptoms and let your doctor decide if you should go to the doctor's office or directly to the hospital. Most doctor's offices don't have laboratory facilities to quickly diagnose what you. There are too many similar symptoms to take chances. Her doctor advised me to take her right to the hospital. The did a nasal flu swab and took a couple of vials for blood for testing. In less than two hours of arriving at the hospital we were told she had RSV, a virus that usually affects very young children.
If we had just gone to the doctor's office they would have most likely sent us to the hospital anyways. By being directed to the hospital first, we avoided contact and possibly spreading what was an unknown pathogen to the doctors office staff and other patients.
Her fever broke while at the hospital and went down to 100. Doctor said RSV can last a week or two.
Hugs
Autumn
Thanks for sharing Autumn,
This is good and important information to have. I hope your wife is doing better now. I am sorry you had to find this out the hard way.
