Not in a medical way...

I'm getting better at not buying clothes for Cerys.

When it first became acceptable at home for me to dress as a woman, I would buy anything that I could get in to. If I could pull a dress on, no matter how tight or how loose it was, I'd buy it and keep it. It didn't matter if it looked awful, or felt horrible to wear, being able to put it on was all that mattered.

A while later, and for many years, if it fitted was all that mattered. I'd buy anything my size, especially short skirts. This continued for many years until quite recently. Our love of charity shop shopping made it a much cheaper hobby. If it were my size, I'd buy it. I soon developed an addiction to skirts. An addiction that I still have. I have hundreds of skirts, the vast majority short, or very short. On many an occasion, I've bought a skirt, only to find out that I already have the same skirt... Sometimes twice.

60s style dresses are also a draw, but most do not have arms, and I do not like having my upper arms on display, so this curtails my buying somewhat.

Whilst my skirt addiction is still very strong, over recent months, I have learned to say no.  I'll often say to my wife that I'm targeting what I buy to stuff that is special, or fills a gap. I've recently been on the quest for a black jumper. It had to be the right one. I saw hundreds of black jumpers, but I resisted. My wife finally bought me one that I saw, but was too expensive. She bought it online and had it delivered in my name... She's a good un!

Today and yesterday is a great example of my being strong. A full day of charity shopping on saturday, with a bit of proper shop shopping.... Today, Sunday a visit to two local charity "superstores"

Saturday I saw a load of things in my size, but I said no. I did weaken and buy two new skirts. Neither like anything I already have. My wife talked me into buying them. In the proper shop I bought two dresses, a skirt and a cardigan. A total of £45 ( a lot of money for me. Again, my wife talked me into it!

Forward to this morning. Whilst getting dressed, I tried on my purchases from Saturday. Of the two dresses, one of them wasn't quite right. It was a tad too big. The skirt wasn't what I was hoping for, and the cardigan was just awful. Back in the bag for return. The one dress that I kept was only £7 and is unlike anything I own, and will be very warm when it's cold (It's proper fluffy).

We headed back to the shop today, and got the refund. Four things bought. Three returned. My wife did suggest that I buy the dress that I returned in the smaller size, but I said no.... See, I am getting better!

On the way home we popped into two charity shops. The one had nothing I wanted. The second, I saw two amazing skirts. Both only £3 each. I took them off the rail, and went to try them on. In the mirror neither really shouted at me. They were great, they were seriously cute, but they didn't shout at me.... A number of years ago, these would be coming home with me. Six weeks ago, these would be coming home with me. Today? They went back on the rail. My wife tried to talk me into buying at least one, but I resisted.

This is quite new for me. I have learned to target my buying. It helps that I am not working, so I don't have my own income. Our money is our money. We've never had his and her money, and I find it strange when couples do, but I'm aware that I'm a kept man, so this plays a large part in my not buying stuff that I don't need.

The addiction is still strong. I do still fall off the waggon, but the pull is nowhere near as strong as it used to be.

I'm Cerys, and I'm addicted to buying stuff I don't need!

Anyone else share this addiction?

Cerys

@dazzler I’m sort of addicted to buying bras on eBuy. I need to stop. I have more than the whole range, 44a—>g, 46a—>g and some 48s as well, because they were cheap. My bad.

I WAS A LITTLE LIKE THAT. I HAVEN'T BOUGHT MUSH IN THE LAST YEAR. MY CLOSET IS OVERSTUFFED. I LIKE JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING I HAVE AND TRY TO ROTATE WHAT I WEAR. THERE ARE ONES I LIKE MORE THAN OTHERS. I LOVE SKIRTS AND HAVE ABOUT 50+. LATELY I'VE BEEN WEARING DRESSES. I HAVE ABOUT MAYBE A DOZEN. ANOTHER WEAKNESS IS SHOES. I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR SANDALS OR BOOTS. DON'T BUY MANY BECAUSE IT'S HARD TO FIND ONES THAT FIT OR LOOK GOOD. I'M MORE INTO GOING OUT AND DOING THINGS NOW. THE PRICES AT GOODWILL ISN'T ANY CHEAPER THAN THE CLEARANCE RACK AT MACY'S. I STILL LOOK, BUT HOLDING BACK ON BUYING MORE.
