I was having one of those imaginary conversations in my head, unbidden by anything in the real world. (Can you relate?) This imaginary conversation was with a cis-het male who was giving me a "hard time" about me dressing as woman. The imaginary dialogue goes something like this:

Cis: "What you're doing goes against human decency!"

Me: "I know, right? I tell myself that sometimes."

Cis: "You shouldn't be doing it, no one in their right mind would run around in public like that!"

Me: "I can see why you might think that. But for just a minute, imagine what it would be like if no one thought it was wrong? Imagine if no one had to tolerate, or even 'accept', this behavior. What if it wasn't considered an aberration, an oddity? Then imagine if NO ONE WAS AFRAID to express themselves this way, even for just a couple hours. Can you imagine how many people you would see crossdressing, if not living as their inner gender despite their birth appearance?"

Cis: "That's crazy! Nobody WANTS to do that!"

Me: "You'd probably be surprised."

Yes it would be very surprising. From the guy that sometimes thinks about it................to the guy that is full on full time en femme, it is more common than people think. It is a spectrum. k

If no one thought it to be wrong, or it became commonplace, it would no longer be crossdressing either.  It would just be gender neutral clothing.

Now I get that sometimes even gender neutral clothing has to have male and female versions.  After all, our body shapes are a little different.  For example, women's pants would have a higher waist, narrower waist, and wider hips.  Because the pants have to fit people of different proportions, women's clothing tends to have a stretch to them to accommodate the differences.

But clothing doesn't really have a gender.  It is society that puts gendered meaning on clothing.  In ancient times, men and women wore robes, or togas.  Anybody remember the original Star Trek series episode "The Apple"?  Both men and women were wearing skirts.

Yes it would be great if it were universally accepted.  But we've come a long way down the path of assigning gender to how we dress and how we look.  It is a long road back to becoming gender neutral.

Yes, Alison, it is society that puts gender on clothing. In history, many of the female clothing was male clothing. That being said, the meaning of male or female is important. Then it becomes an opportunity to identify with one or the other, and to express that identity with those clothing items. Especially when there is little else that allows one to differentiate themselves. Of course, there are also the nonbinary who don't feel a need to differentiate.

Hi Lori, Please don't take this wrong I know how words on a screen can mean different things. Words are type with the writers meaning and others read it a total different way. I will only speak for myself. I don't feel like what I am doing is wrong, I feel right with the world when I am me. I think people look at it as if OMG! what are you doing? Like an automatic defense against something they don't understand. So why do I hide what I am doing? Because we live in a society where if the majority do not agree/understand then they tend to ignore your feelings, opinions, rights. Karley I think you right we are more common then people think. I could go on but I'm not. Thank you for posting Lori. BIG HUG

P.S. and yes it would be great If we all could be ourselves and live happily

Lorie, If a man and woman were both wearing a tee shirt and jeans, we could still tell them apart.  We don't need clothing to tell them apart, and unless one is trying to fool us by looking like the other, it is still pretty obvious who is who.

Interesting post Lorie. When i read your mail I thought substitute "social nudism" for "dressing/CD".

Full body acceptance at AANR and other nudist clubs; search (duckduckgo; they don't track) as there is a club near you. Being nude means no worries about what you wear. Give it q try. Once you have you will love the body acceptance and freedom and new friends. Marlene.

Katey, thank you for your comment, I agree.

I think I wasn't clear about Who thought it was wrong. It wasn't me who thought it was wrong. It's the general public who might think that. Does that clear it up?

Again, appreciate your thoughts!

Hugs, Lorie.

Lorie,

If it became common place for men or women to fully project their inner feelings through how they want to be seen in the world, it would become an everyday thing, every person that falls in that spectrum would be normalized. That sounds pretty boring to me, and to be clear I don’t support any hater believe me! I think if anything society needs to be brought up to speed on these topics, I think it’s slowly starting to happen but even years down the road they’ll still be haters or people that don’t understand. Maybe tell that guy you’re having a hypothetical conversation with “don’t knock until you try it” lol

It would be awesome if we could all just be who we see ourselves to be, and nobody thought it weird.
