I was curious if anyone else noticed/felt that some of their behaviour and/or fashion style as a crossdresser may or may not be influenced by a celebrity or TV character (real or fictional) that they looked up too as a child.

I have noticed in the past that my rather gothic/vampire style of dress may have originated from me being obsessed with the Hex Girls (Scooby Doo and the Witch's Ghost) since that was a film that I grew up with. Watching this film didn't make me fall in love with them, it made me want to BE one of them! I also as a kid had a little crush on Velma Dinkly (also Scooby Doo) and really hope today to get my hands on an orange turtleneck and red pleated skirt in the near future.

I wasn't quite aware of this until I looked closer, but Jinkies did this ever surprise me! I was curious if anyone else noticed things like this for themselves.

xoxo

Back in the day I saw the film Mary Poppins. I loved the film and I do recall looking at the girl character and wished I was wearing her dresses. I know there were more influences but that one does still stick in my mind.

Whether it was television, magazines or what ever, every time I saw a woman I would look at her legs, see if she was wearing nylons then see what shoes she was wearing. Then I would look at her dress and her breasts and wonder what kind of bra she was wearing. These were all things I loved and wanted for myself. I wanted to dress in girl's clothes, not boys. I would dream about wearing her clothes.

But I never had any one true role model and inspiration until I saw Daisy Duke. That was it. I had to look like her, wear what she wore and be like her. I deviated a bit. Daisy often wore strappy heels. I substituted platform wedges. To conceal I didn't have Daisy hips, I wore long shirts over my short shorts. That meant I could wear other kinds of shorts like hot pants and little Hooter Girl like shorts. Sometimes the long shirt covered my short shorts, looking like I was wearing a short dress. I liked that, even if it wasn't Daisy like. I bought a couple of wigs I thought were close but not exact.
Much of my dressing after that revolved on would Daisy wear this? Or how would Daisy look in this?

Hi Patty!

That is such a beautiful connection right there! I understand completely how you feel about that even though I've never even seen The Dukes of Hazzard. When someone who leaves that kind of impression on you sticks around in your mind, it can really bring about influence, especially if said character has a large, well-written personality. I really hope your outfits meet your standards when comparing to Daisy, best wishes!

On the lighter side. Who can forget bugs bunny dressed up to keep Elmer Fudd at bay. Always found that fun as a kid.

I did what I could to look like Daisy as much as possible with adding some of what I liked into it. The platform wedges instead of the strappy heels, and the long shirt to cover the fact I didn't have Daisy hips. Looking like I was wearing a short dress when the shirts totally covered my little shorts let me accidentally take on a look I really liked. I guess I created my own version of Daisy.

i don't know but shows from the 60s and 70s with women wearing high heels and short dresses I like and wish I could have worn heels myself, but society just didn't allow it then or now really. They also wore pantyhose in those days and I loved that; I still wear pantyhose even though it is out of style.

Oh yes, definitely !

Growing up, my fave Tv show was Three's Company.  I remember the character Janet Wood, and seeing her in the early episodes dressed dowdy and frumpy, to the later episodes where her hair do (to me) was sexy, and the way she dressed was even sexier.  Often Janet would wear a nice skirt to the knees, and an 80s style blouse (frills, lace, puffy sleeve).  She didn't wear pumps, but kitten heel style shoes.

I remember seeing those outfits she wore and fell in love with it.  There was something alluring and sexy about the figure hugging pencil skirt she wore, and the long sleeve blouses tucked into the skirt that made her look stunning.  Sometimes she would pair the black pencil skirt with a thin gold belt, heightening the attractiveness.

Fast forward today, and my wardrobe consists mostly of pencil skirts, mostly solid colours (like Janet, she never wore floral designs if I recall).  While I pass on the 80s style blouses, I have more modern style blouses which I tuck into my skirts.  I have only a few pair of pumps, but I can't wear them any longer as my left toe hurts something fierce.  I tried to mimic Janet's outfit style mixed with modern day clothing, that includes the shoes before my left toe began hurting.

Hi Wendy!

I hope your left toe can recover soon to allow your dress style to be unbounded once again!

Great question!

While not a childhood idol, my current idol is Norah O'Donnell. Her style, shoes and makeup, especially eye makeup is awesome!

Previous idols: Petra, Lucy Hale, Hilary Duff, and Kate Jackson. I so much wanted to be Kate!
