A security flaw in iPhones, allows hackers to make contactless payments without knowing the user's pass code, researchers have found.
The issue affects users who have Visa cards set up to pay while in the "Transit mode" popular for commuters for quick payments through gates. Scientists discovered the flaw can also bypass the contactless limit meaning any amount can be stolen. The weakness lies in the Applepay and Visa systems working together. The flaw occurs when the Visa card is set on "Express transit mode" in an iPhone wallet. Test using radio equipment the team were able to identify a unique code broadcast by turnstiles, which can unlock Applepay, tricking it to believe it was talking to the gate when actually its talking to a card reader. At the same time Researchers fooled the card reader into thinking the iPhone had completed its user authorisation, so payments of any amount can be taken.
So girls you have warned.

That's why I have never set up any kind of smart pay on any phone. I even have RF blocking panels in my wallet for my credit cards.
These days the average time for hackers to defeat security measures on credit cards and phones is only about 72 hours. And that's not just iphones girls. Stay wary of any electronic device.
Thanks Amanda for the alert.
Alice
about to throw my smart phone out the window and go back to old style flip phones.
Thanks Amanda for the warning.
Love and hugs, Stephanie 💖
I have one of those hemorrhoid phones that I can browse the 'net' with. I have not, and never will, have any banking or payment apps on it. I have lost two of these and when I tell people you would think I have lost a loved one!
I just went to the shop and the assistant baffles me with what it can do and I ask if it makes and receives phone calls and sends messages. I do like the camera part and can listen to music when I am out and about and look for things on the net.
That'll do for me and my trusty little Nokia is still in the drawer as standby.
The problem is as time goes on I can see a time when even plastic is replaced by the phone as the banks and corporations are hell bent on doing away with anything that costs money to run in the drive for profit and to isolate those not wanting to change or who are unable to use these devices.
LOL wait till the implanted chips come around where everything in your life is on it. Then Hackers get ahold of that. No chips or any smart devices implanted in this girl.
Hi Amanda,
I'm another one that's wary of online banking. I'll set up subscriptions or buy things online from a laptop that never leaves home, but that's it. I've succumbed to a cheap smartphone, but like others have said, I've no intention of setting it up to pay by phone.
Unfortunately I suspect the trend is to sideline 'old fashioned' customers and their preferred way of paying while at the same time, glossing over hacking issues.

Yes we are watching the death of cash already Angela, the big player just simply want the quickest watch to get hold of your money electronically.

Absolutely correct Marti.
