I just read an article on CDH about “unplanned consequences”, get yelled at or beat up. Wonderful article and it’s clearly what goes on in my head when I go out dressed and has prompted me to share an incident that happened the other day.
I was out and about getting stuff I needed and stopped by a convenience store to use the restroom and grab a soda I had on white Reebok sneakers (comfortable for doing errands) and a maroon with white polka dot dress. Had my makeup done and definitely not passable but I was in my happy place
I walked into the ladies room to do my thing and when I was done I went to wash my hands and comb my hair but there was a little girl about maybe 10 that finished up at when I did and saw me as she was washing her hands. She said “hi” and I politely said hi back smiled. She told me have a nice day as she left and I said you do as well. When I was done I walked out to a verbal ambush by her mom and on was she mad!
She lit into me tell me how I was a pervert how dare I go into a woman’s restroom with her daughter (I did not know there was a young kid in there). I stood there and let her yell as others looked at me and I’m not one to get embarrassed or quick to temper either but she was for certain letting others know what had transpired. The manager came over and asked what was going on and asked her to calm down. We both told our sides of the story and he asked us to go our separate ways, but I didn’t because I still had my soda to get lol.
I do plan my day when I’m dressed where I stop and stay around crowds and sometimes less crowds are better. I don’t want any issues either. I have never had an issue with using the ladies room. Has anyone else had an issue with this or something similar? What would you ladies do in this situation?
Oh God, a mother Karen and her cub. Sorry you had to deal with that.
Gosh - I am so sorry you were subjected to that, but as long as people misunderstand others who are different to them, there will be scenes like this.
I carry on trusting to blind luck and a happy smile that it doesn't happen to me - or, that if it does, I can remain as calm as you did - well done, honey!
Love Laura
Yeah I was shaken up pretty bad
Oh yes, Paula, when dressed in fem.,use the ladies room. But I can understand the woman's reaction. All there needs to be is one creep out there, or a tv show with such a creep mix that with a parinoid person and it ruins it for all of us.

Wow one of our worst nightmares. I can understand the mothers concern but she should have handled it better. Sorry you had to endure this and hope it doesn't stop you from going out in any way. We all have to be careful at all times in public.
I would have left just as soon as I knew the child was in the restroom. The mother probably would have still jumped in my case.
From the neck up, I don't even try to pass, so I prefer the men's room. Good on you for keeping your cool.
Smooch,
Fredrika
Hi Paula,
Sad, but true: A certain segment of the population views all CDs as perverts and child-molesters. We run a small, but unavoidable risk every time we step out the front door, and you managed a bad situation very well.
Hugs,
Bettylou
Sounds like the young girl didn't care or even notice. Really just shows it's the parents who teach the kids through their interactions.
That had to be more than a little frightening Paula. You did really well though. Nicely done.
And I understand you got your soda too! ; )
Best, Clara
Oh my Gosh Paula, what an experience. Luckily I've never had that happen to me while in the ladies room. I'm not sure how I'd handle it. Sounds like you did well.
I've had the opposite experience though. Three times I've been told while being in the men's room that I've gone into the wrong bathroom; that the ladies restroom is next door. I wasn't in full femme attire; I suppose you'd call it androgynous clothing; well maybe some of it was female but certainly not overly feminine. Kind of a neat experience watching men's reaction when I go into the men's restroom. I'm often mistaken for female (which I love) but my wife isn't too happy about it. It's got to the point now where my wife won't go with me to a restaurant anymore as the waitress always comes up to us and asks "what can I get for you ladies?". Life is so full of experiences. And I love that we can share our stories here on CDH. Have a lovely rest of the week Paula, All the Best, Hugs, Krista.
I was unaware that the child was in the restroom. As I was washing my hands she came up to the sink that was next to me.
Yes that was the priority LOL
Thank you 😚
Personally, in a public place, such as that, I would not use the ladies’ restroom unless the door could be locked.
If not, one might find oneself in a restroom with a little girl, as you did.
One then runs the risk of a serious misunderstanding and/or physical assault if the wrong person encounters his or her young daughter in the restroom with a grown man.
Not to mention the fact that one might also face prosecution for indecency or worse and is required to register as a sex offender, in particular jurisdictions.
