Hi girls,
I was invited to a few gentle fireworks, appropriate to two little ones, P aged 15 months and B 4 and a half.
but for me, it wasn't the fireworks. I don't see P that often that she's not sure about me, but in a houseful of friendly faces, she finally was confident enough to totter to me across the room, and let me sit her on my lap, and look at the book she had.
Only for two pages, mind you. But I'll settle for that. Patience is a virtue.
How did your fireworks night go?

I don't know what fireworks night is, hon, but the rest of that sounds pretty cool.
Yay! Big smiles.
Hi Marti.
Lovely that your evening went well....
lots of loud explosions about my town, usual and expected idiots were about....and quite a few Police, fire and ambulance sirens....also as expected.
Tonight, tomorrow and the following days will be the same.....
I didn't go out.
The only "sparklers" I like are ear rings and necklaces

Hi Rach,
Nov 5 'celebrates' the failure of one Guy Fawkes and conspirators to blow up the seat of government in the UK - the Houses of Parliament. It happened on Nov 5 in 1605 (we still haven't got over it 😉 ). A real celebration involves a crowd and big bonfire on which an effigy of Guy Fawkes is burnt, but now it's just an excuse for simple fireworks in the back garden and oohs and aahs. A lot of people prefer to just buy fireworks with the biggest bang, which scares pets and little kids, so it's not universally liked anymore. A 'sparkler' is jewelry with diamonds in it a hand held firework that emits white sparks as it burns and little kids love. We stick the wire base through a carrot to make it easier for little hands to hold.

Interesting!
I knew the story of Guy Fawkes but had no idea you celebrated that with a holiday lol. Thanks!
I took yesterday and today off, and told my friends it was to celebrate Guy Fawkes day, which of course they didn't get it. Actually I took it off to go to the opening night of La Boheme at the Virginia Opera. Didn't get to bed until 0100 or so, but had a blast. Was surprised that our box seats got moved to the other side of the theater from last year though. I'm so glad your night went well, and as all have agreed, patience is a virtue.

I take it P and V are grandchildren?
If so, that's so lovely - and if not, that's still lovely.
Nothing engages children like a book.
Books encourage imagination and stimulate growth.
Portsmouth was alive with fireworks and what sounded like naval gun firing - it has many parks, and the sky was exploding on Friday and Saturday night.
It was awesome - but I was indoors for quite a lot of it.
Saw quite a few displays in the near distance last week and the week before.
Many people don't seem to be able to grasp the concept of "Remember, remember the 5th of November"...
They are daughters of my godson and his lovely partner to be precise. That'll do! I love 'em to bits.
