Hi Ladies,
When I woke up this morning I came out and started my coffee then I turned on my laptop and found out that during the night that I was hacked and locked out of my computer. I tried everything that I knew but was unsuccessful in getting control of my laptop
So I brought it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and they are working on it. So I am now confined to my cellphone.
I should have my Laptop back in a couple of days.

Hi Kathleen,
Oh, dear! The Geek Squad are really good. Hope you get your computer back soon. Better change your password for the networks/accounts you use.
Alice
I'm planning on it Alice. I'm going to talk to the Geek Squad to see what I should change to make it more difficult for someone to get into my computer.

Oh so sorry…
💖
Yeah Julie I'm sorry also.

Wow Kathleen sorry about the trouble going through and getting hacked. Know many times by visiting some sites will send a hack out to the system. Also some of the email may get are spam and if click the link to some will infect your system. Many sceneries for being hacked. Best thing to do is keep your virus software up to date and change passwords. Once get it back all your accounts online would change passwords if can. Good luck when getting it back. Know Geek squad does some good work. on removing viruses.

Donna,
I did it before on my previous Laptop and I never had a problem so I guess I'll have to do it again and that is make my computer password protected so you have to get past the password to get in the computer. I don’t know how effective that would be since all my passwords were in Excel on my computer and they probably have that list already.

That crazy how they got ahold of them Know always hear some use simple passwords like bdays or such
Hopefully geek squad will tell you how they did it. If they don't would ask. May have some kind of remote software installed with out you knowlege too. Wishing the best on it.
Donna
Sorry to hear that love. Hope it’s sorted out soon for you.
Rats!
Sorry to hear that you got hit, it's never pleasant when someone digging around in your personal stuff.
I'm doing a lot of computer stuff and run my own server and long time back one of them got hacked through a flaw in the web app I was using. It managed to send out a few thousand spam emails before I managed to stop it, not fun.
Passwords, my master password list is in an encrypted file but I also use a password manager which makes life way easier. I'm not telling you which one I use since I don't really like the free versions limitations but just ask google and you will find reviews and stuff about all of the ones out there. You may think that if someone hack your password manager then they have all your passwords and while that's true it's still harder than hack a excel spread sheet 🙂
Also, at least for any important account - enable and use 2fa or mfa so even if they get their hands on your psw they can't get access. For that I use authy since unlike google authenticator authy can backup all your stuff so when you change phone (or loose it) you don't have to redo all of it (which would be a huge pain for me with some dozen of entries).
Donna said keep (paid) antivirus up2date, I say don't click on links to start with. Besides scam and maleware it's probably just an ad for something you don't need anyway.

Kathleen...
Everybody uses computers or phones for everything these days ...so many " lowlifes " can make a living from hacking and stealing from others.....why would they need an honest job????
Take care, grace xx
Hi Kathleen,
I'm wondering if you have virus protection software? It's not the only one out there, but you can download e.g. Malwarebytes for free. I've used it for ages to good effect and nowadays pay for the full version. Hopefully the geek squad will be able to offer advice on stopping you getting hacked again.

Hi Kathleen,
Sorry to read your system has been hacked. All you can do is make sure you have the best security in place, and regularly change your passwords.
Nothing is safe and there is always someone that will have the expertise to bypass theses security measures. If they can beat major banks and corporations that proves how clever they are.
Keep safe Amanda xx
get a Ipad or notepad bigger screen and at least can see what doing.
