Hi all,

I woke up today, and couldn't fill the kettle, because it propped up my small chalkboard. I know if I block the kettle, I'll have to read the message I chalked on it. Don't tell me I'm not high tech!

"Jab on Wed 3.47" was the reminder I needed. Oh yes, this time its the pneumonia vaccine - never had that one before, must be new fangled (by that I mean less than 10 years old?). A couple of weeks ago it was the "shingles" vaccination - I'm sure that must be quite new too? And in another week I'm booked in for my yearly flu jab. All arranged and courtesy of the National Health Service.

Funny how we forget about the NHS - and the great people who work for it - until we need it. Anyway if you need a new pin cushion, I'm available.

Marti xxx

EDIT : hey, clever stuff. When I turned up for the pneumonia jab, the nurse offered to do my flu jab at the same time. One journey saved, one less in the queue next week.

Marti...

Loving your tech...but it works for you, great!!!

Our NHS has always been there, and hopefully always will be....and after the last two years battering....they are still as caring and just as wonderful as ever.

Question....when you take a drink....do you turn into a sprinkler???🤣🤣

I had a pneumonia jab a few weeks ago. I never knew that there was one.
My doctors' surgery has been texting me every day to book in for my flu jab. I have just spent 30 minutes on the phone in a queue, only to be told that they have run out of flu jabs!
As for you high tech reminder system. I have had to revert to physical reminders as the electronic bleeps, and buzzes tend to get ignored or easily forgotten. Tags tied to car keys, post it notes on the television, paper notes inside this laptop when it's closed.

Isn't age wonderful? 🙂

Hi Grace,

Strong breakfast tea seems to plug the holes , but I'll have some plasters on hand!

We're booked in for our flu jabs at Boots (chemist chain) since our local practise don't seem to be able to get their act together. Still waiting for an invite for the Covid booster. I haven't heard of a pneumonia jab being rolled out - maybe it's just for at-risk people? As for shingles, I didn't know there was a jab for that.

We'll all slowly deflate and blow away what with all these holes in us.

Hi Connie,

I should have added that I'm of a certain age, but I don't know what the entry age is to qualify.

I didn't need any persuasion for the shingles shot. I got shingles in my forehead and right eye about 8 years ago - a horrible thing. And apparently getting shingles once does not give you any immuninity from a subsequent attack.

Ouch! My brother-in-law had a bad case of shingles, and if someone offers me a jab (I'm also of a certain age, though possibly not as certain as you!) I'll take it rather than suffer. I've heard that the virus can lie dormant for years before something triggers it.

Hi Marti,

Yep its jab November, covid booster, and flu jappies too. What's is a  shame is the  shabby way the NHS front line workers were given a poor pay rise. I don't think the public forget the NHS, it's the MP's that moan they can't live on £80,000 a year plus perks, and civil servants. Stop the gold plated public pensions arrangements costing millions, and really fund the NHS.

We have fantastic NHS with dedicated staff that deserve to be recognised and rewarded.

Rant over,

Lol Amanda xx

Hi Marti!

The NHS is another great English invention! And no doubt an inspiration to our Tommy Douglas here in Canada who championed our own publicly funded healthcare system.

A few years ago, we had a national pole asking who was the most influential Canadian ever and he was overwhelmingly voted to the #1 spot and well ahead of any hockey player!

I'm getting all choked up just thinking about it!

Incidentally, Tommy Douglas is actor Keifer Sutherland's grandfather!

Oh! Love Call the Midwife! We get it here on Netflix.

Amanda....how quickly the " heroes " are discarded when a pay rise is mentioned....sad really.

In fact, they are doing vaccinations in my town from a small shed on the street corner....I believe the doctor is called jabber the Hutt.....I could be wrong !!!!

Oh!?

I just looked up Casualty and it's only available on "BritBox", a TV online platform that I don't yet have. Well, as my mother-in-law used to say, "Feed the cat another canary!".

Btw, I love Vanessa Redgrave!

Thanks, Grace!

You girls are so lucky to live where theres national healthcare. Here in America the best healthcare is only available to the rich. If you're poor then its... We are so sorry but you're going to probably die early. American greed = MONEY MONEY MONEY!
