I am in my 60s and have been dealing with a lot of body hair since my 30s. Not Robin Williams level fur but 40% that level. My natural scalp hair was still mostly medium brown when I gave up on the male pattern baldness and started shaving my head. Some of my body hair like on arms is very light to dark blonde. My armpits / chest / back / legs are mostly a dark brown to nearly black. I have been shaving it for years but as you know it takes time and regular attention to maintain. I started shaving long before I even considered my self anything but the total masc hetero John Wayne male because I just don’t like the look, feel and the way it gets smelly! 2 years ago I bought a 6 treatment full body Lazer package and finished those about a year ago. My hair growth now seems to be about 40% or 60% as dense as it was before I started. A local ‘spa’ is having a special (I know they ALWAYS have those specials) and Sunday is my birthday and I am thinking of making that my birthday present to myself.

In your collective experiences will another round of 6 finish the job and leave me truly hairless? Thanks kiss kiss

Hi Megan; My experience with the Laser was wonderful. I was hairy (not quite Robin Williams, but hairy nonetheless). I had it done all over; arms, chest, back, legs and bikini area . It took about 6 months from start to finish...I would go every two weeks and do a different area each time. In some areas the hair never grew back, some did and came back lighter and finer, those needed a repeat. Afterwards I did my beard...not as successful as the body.

Hope this helps.

@melissat1812 thanks… I am hoping this second set of all over treatments will do the trick!

Hey Megan,

It's hard to say if another round will get the job done.  Laser is most effective on dark hair and fair skin.  It's much less effective on blonde, red and gray hair.  YMMV.

I had excellent results with laser when I had it done shortly before the pandemic.  I got 4 full-body treatments in before my clinic closed.  At that point I was 50-60% hair free.  I got tired of waiting and bought a home IPL device.  It was slow but it worked.  After about 6 months with the IPL, I was almost completely hair free from the neck down.

I presume you're asking about the IPL device.

It's a Philips Lumea Prestige.  One of the better ones that's available.

I do not have personal experience with laset treatment, buy my understanding is it is rarely 100% effective. It is certainly reduce hait, and maynr with enough treats,(how many???) it would. For those starting with modest hair it maybe close enough to be worth the effort, but for the truly hairy I doubt it. If you can get it to a modest level, consider thermolysis, which from my understanding is the only true way of permanant hair removal. Unfortunately it takes a lot of time and appointments, especually if startu g with a lot of hair.

Like JJ, i have no laser experience to go by.  However, i do know that electrolysis is much more effective & permanent but at a higher cost.  A good girlfriend in Dallas has gone down the electrolysis rabbit hole for two years now.  She likes it, looks good, and no longer has to deal with shaving.

I am lucky to only have to deal with facial shaving & a bit with the arms from time to time.  May consider electrolysis for my face in the future.

@victoriacc (Victoria Covington) would be a good resource for answers, since she in in the business..

Megan,

I am 70+ I am grateful that age has my legs hair free but I was frustrated with hairs chest and abdomen.. I decided to try laser treatments because I was a good patient with “dark” hairs.. laser treatments are a commitment. I signed up for the prescribed 8 treatments at a discounted price..after 3/8 treatments I am pleased with the results so far.. however, downside after the treatments there is irritation which lasts 2-3 days and the nurse advises no sun exposure for few days after treatments.. BTW if your feminine presentation includes a corset or shapewear, I advise DONot, I made the mistake a day after .. it was very painful.. I am looking forward to the “means to the end” to be hair free in the chest area to wear off shoulder dresses lol.     I hope my experience so far helps and does discourages you.. I am not and I am looking forward to being hair free!

I have waxed shaved and plucked for many years. That was as far as i could go as my wife was against laser treatments. When she agreed I had legs treated. I have at least 90% less hair as a result and much of the remaining hair is grey which the lasers aren't effective on. So it is the closest that I have found to permanent hair removal.

Hope this helps
