I hope you’ll all indulge me in this shout-out to one of our own girls doing great works in our community. I’m talking about the Pride of Wisconsin. No, not Giannis, not Aaron but our very own Martha Madison!
And when I say pride, I mean, PRIDE! Martha is a tireless advocate and role model for lgbtq+ justice. And for all she does, she does it with love, compassion and encouragement.
So what does she do? Here’s an example: Martha saw the need for a safe place for CD/TG girls to come together for support and understanding. And then she found a way to fill that need. Her outreach resulted in finding a home for what has become a regular get together for girls throughout the region. Martha’s provided us a comfortable place to find each other and given us the opportunity to step out of the shadows. I have no doubt that without Martha’s nurturing support, Clara Cross and countless others like me would still not have made their public debut. The home she found is the Napalese Lounge in Green Bay.
On August 20 - 22, we’ll be celebrating Pride Weekend at “Naps”. Martha’s work bringing visibility to our community will be on full display. A coalition builder, she has garnered service and support from government, business and the arts communities for a grand opening of sorts all centered around the Napalese Lounge.
Martha can probably explain it even better....

My heartfelt thanks to you @matty. You’ve made such a difference for so many.
Clara
ps, for those of you not paying attention lately.....Giannis and Aaron are basketball and football players respectively.
Dearest Clara, I don't know what to say (and as you know that takes something for me to be speechless) I'm a little dumbfounded, and yet very grateful for your generous and kind words. When you asked if it was OK to post the video I had no idea this is what you had in mind. If I did..., Regardless, I offer a very humbled and sincere thank you. However, the success of most of the things I get involved in, like the monthly Gathering and Weekend of Pride, has just as much to do with the wonderful trans girls like you and so many others who come and are willing to share their stories, laughter and once in awhile their tears with one another. Thanks to you as well for being one of those special people and to all those who make me look good. Humbly - Martha
Well deserved kudos Martha. See you Saturday.
❤️C
That's wonderful! If love to know how you did that, Martha. I have a goal of trying to do something of the sort in Hampton Roads, Virginia in about two years when our youngest is out of the house.
Bridgette
Hi Bridgette. I thought of Martha when you posted about trying to get an in person social group going. I hope you can connect with @matty. She’s got a real nice thing going up in Green Bay. Come to think of it, maybe you can come this Saturday!
See you there ; )
Clara
What an inspiring story!!!!
Hi Clara
Martha is a real inspiration to anyone, she deserves all the praise given to her.
Best Wishes
Sarah xx
I wish, but that's a bit far for me! Lol
Bridgette
Hi Clara sorry to be late to comment. Thank you introducing Martha and the wonderful work she has and is doing for our community. It is so nice see our gay community celebrated on the local news in a positive light. It takes special people to make that happen. So often in the past the gay bars and night clubs were only mentioned when awful crimes have been committed. Our community needs in person places to go where they can be themselves without fear of criticism or any harm coming to them. Thank Martha and her bravery for standing up of a very large population that is still in the closet in most cases. Good for you and Martha for being so open and vulnerable.
Luv Stephanie
I couldn’t agree more, Sarah.
❤️C
Thanks Steph. One of the most common refrains one hears on CDH is, “I want to go out, I want to be with others who understand me”. Martha created space for just that. I was absolutely in tears when first I walked into her monthly gathering. Surrounded by people to whom I had no need to explain myself, no reason to feel afraid. Martha’s helping hand and encouragement made it very easy. We need more Martha’s and we need to create these safe spaces for all of us.
Best to you,
❤️C
I totally agree, Mia. I am happy to toot that horn for Martha.

Someday girlfriend. Someday our paths will cross.

Hi Clara I grew up in a city where there were 4 or five places to go at night mostly.I just took it for granted. It wasn't until I started working and began to travel a little I found out there are very few places where our community could gather. I did it by word of mouth and trial and error. A secret underground population ha ha Cabaret shows with drag queens was always a great place to start. You are right there has to be a lot more Martha's in the world but there also has to be a lot more Clara's to help support the Martha's We all play a important role. Never underestimate your role
. Love Stephanie
Here’s a little follow up......

Pride weekend in Green Bay Wisconsin was pretty darn special. At one point, a rainbow appeared over the block party. Really. A rainbow as if on cue.
Martha Madison. Take a bow girl. A wonderful, inclusive, safe, affirming, welcoming weekend. And we had an absolute blast.
