Today, I had my second makeover/consultation In Boots with the No7. consultant.
I went in as Cerys, but with no make up. The consultant, let's call her Mary, used a measuing device on my face that took photos and analysed the results. My skin is in very good condition. It needs moisturising, and it's not as oily as it could be, but otherwise it's very good. I said to Mary that I'm a 57 year old man trying to look like a 30 year old woman. Mary was surprised to hear that I'm 57. she said that I had amazing skin for someone of that age.
The machine threw back suggestions for the correct colour foundation. Mary tried two, one on each side of my face. We bothe agreed with the computer on the better colour. Mary then cleaned my face and asked what I was looking to achieve. I said that I wanted a natural look, nothing over the top.
Here's where it get interesting. She asked what I do with my eyebrows. I replied nothing. I tried eyebrow pencil once and it looked stupid, so I gave up. She asked me if I wanted her to give it a try, to which I agreed. Before she applied anything, she asked if I would like her to style my brows.... this is something, I was nervous about as I tried it once before, and my wife wasn't impressed. I decided that Mary could style my brows. Mary went to work cutting out the long hairs and generally tidying them up. She asked my what I thought. I said they looked OK. She then asked if I'd like them a bit thinner.... What the hell, I'm sat in the chair why not. I now have more feminine eyebrows!!!!!
Mary then started applying primer, then the foundation, and a touch of bronzer. She was so much better than I am. dabbing and touching, being quite particular in places. Not the blanket "cover the face" method that I use. He application of the bronzer was very targeted. Then came mascara, she used the same one that I use at home...
When it came to the lips, she used a pencil. I have always assumed that a pencil was just for outlining.... Apparently not. She coloured my lips with the pencil. The look was amazing. The then went over the lips with a lipstick of the same colour. This was just to fill out the lips more and fill in any slight cracks etc.
Every step of the way, Mary showed me what she was doing, and explained why. She was Brilliant!
When she was finished, she didn't hard sell the products she used, though I did buy the foundation, lip pencils of two colours, the matching lipsticks and the primer. I didn't buy the bronzer, fixing powder, nor the fixing spray.
All in all it was a brilliant TWO HOURS!!!! A real consultation. Every step was talked over. Every decision was made between the two of us. Mary did what I wanted, and she did it very well indeed.
When I returned home, i went to see my wife who was working in her office upstairs. My wife saw me... One word "Wow!" There was nothing flashy. No bright colours. No extreme eye liner, just a real, clean, well turned out me!!!! The problem I now have is that I have to try an recreate the look every day! This new way will take a bit longer, but I'm sure over time I'll get the knack. I'll also be able to mix and match with my other make up to try different looks.
Overall, I one very happy Cerys. New hair last Friday. New face on Wednesday!
Cerys!
Cerys -
Sounds like a lovely experience for you. How nice of Mary to take the time she did to explain and give you the look you deserve.
XOXO
