Managers Musings - recent issues

Hello darlings

I just wanted to update y'all on a few hot issues on the site that the Managing Ambassador Team has been dealing with...

First off we have a serial spammer on the site that keeps trying to get members to contact them offsite for an illicit deal... Remember, if someone is trying to lure you to email them with a deal that's too good to be true, well... you get it... This one could only be caught by our Management Team, or by any member that got these messages reporting them to us (hint, hint)...

Next we have a trend that we're seeing (and booting for), and that is sharing personal contact information in the public areas of the site, that being in forum posts/replies, responding to pictures and articles, and on peoples' walls. These are all public, anyone on the site can see them, and they are searchable from the internet. Personal contact information includes, but is not limited to: email address, phone number, home (or any) address, facebook/twitter/reddit/tumblr/flickr feeds, etc. The ONLY way you can share personal information is in a private message, and only with mutual consent ("I would love to meet your for coffee, can I send you my phone number?" as an example) (usually for me it's "which club are we meeting at" but that's a different story).

Just keep in mind that the staff here is in place to protect our members, and all of the annoying things we do are well designed to do that. If someone is trying to lure you away from a place where the conversations can be moderated by the staff, that is a red flag! (yes, I have many CD friends off of this site, but I've known most of them for years...)
