There are certain professions that I have generally thought well that guys not CD/TG  . Related to " Monty Python Lumber Jack Song". " if you dont know it youtube"   but as well other jobs generally associated with being manly.  With the Caveot of course women also do these jobs, but I doubt there are many female Lumber Jacks that at night put on a dress and heels lol.  but Ive already seen many here that have pretty manly jobs and I expect if I saw you IRL most of us would say No Way !!  I myself have a very un-manly job as a Computer Jockey.  but since we have an audience allover the the world there are probably many jobs that Ive never heard of that are regarded as generally Butch.  I know we have alot of truck drivers and some mechanics. Maybe some Construction workers , can anyone beat that? Who has the "Manlyist" job on CDH Grin   I know Im killing the English language with that one.  .  Ill post My First public photo Ill Title it "A Contridiction" to compliment this as I was having a bit of fun and its what gave me the thought.  Cheers RC

@jasminejeffries75 I could look at a waiter/waitress and say yup CD lol  but its much tougher to do the same with a construction worker.    actually I think Aerosmith dude looks like a lady video had a construction worker that had a beautiful make-up job.. I did relate to that video. secretly of course.  Blushing   Have a great day Jasmine RC

@denimwear There are so many jobs that i see women doing that at the time im envious.  waitress stewardess even female bartenders.  but so many people are such aholes  I think it really takes a special person to do it and enjoy it.  not sure I could  be a waitress and not get fired for hauling off on someone and telling them off I don't think I could deal with todays Karen 🙂 .  Cheers RC

Hi River,

I was a partner in a sports store in the Early-Nineties and, as you suggest, dealing with the public is not always to be desired.

I think that that may be why, although I would like the role of waitress, being a housemaid at a manor house or small hotel would suit me a lot better.

I would be as much like Polly in 'Fawlty Towers' as I could be and try to sound as much like her as possible.

You must mean the ex-parrot as thus:-

'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-PARROT!!

Hi, River.

I served an apprenticeship as an engineer down a coal mine, ostensibly a manly job. However, everything being relative, the actual coal miners, the guys with picks and shovels, looked upon engineers and electricians as not as manly as them because we carried tools and fixed machines while they did "real" physical work.

Next, I worked in a spirits bottling plant, 99% women and where I really learned how to interact with them.

Gave up work at 47 to return to full time education and gained an honours degree from the University of St Andrews.

Finished my working life as a college lecturer.

All through my jobs, manly or otherwise, I indulged in crossdressing but denied and suppressed my feminine side.

Now retired and happy to have embraced both sides of me.

No, the "miners" were the guys, and it was only guys.  It'll be interesting to see, if some mining company gets the go-ahead to open a new one, if they employ women for underground work.

The miners did all the jobs associated with cutting and transporting the coal to the surface. Engineers and electricians installed and maintained the machinery.

Spot on, River, the black eyes were the first thing I noticed when I started working there! 😊.

Thanks, Anna, that made me think back to my time underground.

I realised that it was never even considered a possibility, far less questioned. A bit like a priori knowledge, it just was the way it was. This may have been the early seventies but the social attitudes were very much from the fifties.

But I digress..again, my point was that, although I, and those not "lucky" enough to have worked down t'pit, might consider my job then as manly, to the miners doing manual labour, I was, like all tradesmen, a "softy".

Ah yes, happy days....aching back, chest problems, at least one fingernail out of ten blackened...why on earth did I leave?

I often wonder what working underground was like.

In a word, Terrifying!

In another word, Hilarious 😂

Yeah, believe it or not, there was a lot of laughs. Especially for rebellious 17-20 year old apprentices.

Some examples: Riding the belt - literally jumping on the conveyor belts carrying the coal towards the loading area where the mine cars were filled and hauled to the pit bottom. VERY forbidden and dangerous but hey, we were rebels.

Miners would hang their jackets on any bits of wood sticking out from behind girders. We put 6" nails through them.

You'll have seen miners wearing lamps on their safety hats, they were attached to the battery, which hung from a belt at the waist, by a cable. A sure fire winner, especially at finishing time on a Friday, was to silently slip a cable tie through the cable and the back support on what we called the bogies, squat carriages that carried men up and down long sloping roads. When the bogies stopped everyone jumped off in a rush to get up the pit. Everyone except the guy tied to the bogie and who discovered said tie when his head snapped back! Oh how we laughed...and ran for our lives!

I could go on but I've already said too much.....

@river the open shafts by us are very deep and dangerous. They do get abseiled and filmed, one of them is full of old cars. One of the adits I've been in has a plank over a winze (underground shaft) called by those who know "the plank of doom". It's fairly level inside but very narrow

Amazing. Yes, can't say I ever heard anyone describe it like that. Lots of other adjectives, none of which I can use in a family friendly community!

No parakeets, we just took a young lad, fresh from his chimney cleaning, and threw him in before us. If he survived, we knew it was ok for us.

@river I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok I work in the forest all day. Lol. Yes being Canadian and owning 10 chainsaws makes me feel qualified to answer. I have downed many a tree with the roar of my fossil fuelled Husky chain devil. Most of them already dead and wanting to get cut up for firewood. At the same time I likely was wearing some nice nylon ladies briefs to protect my lady parts (or maybe cotton). By day I was an energy economist - not very lady like but certainly honourable enough. I also like to race cars with high horsepower while wearing women's undergarments. LOL. And perhaps a smidge of perfume.

@river Me again River. Not Men at Work, but "Men at Play".I was a keen recreational fisherman for nearly 40 years, and of course only ever wore my old male clothes.

But I often mused about going fishing "fully femme",. Ball gown heels, wig, make up etc.etc.

Just imagine the looks from my fellow "macho fishos" of this "woman" in 4" heels on a slippery boat ramp, trying not to break her painted nails whilst handling the mooring lines as the boat comes off the trailer.

Then a "poll".. I hook the fish of a lifetime and its just about to go in the net, one of my breast forms gets loose and is about to fall out of my bra as I lean over the side.

Which do I net. the fish or the form??

Easy, the fish. Cant send a "brag photo" of a triangular C Cup to my fishing mates...

Caty..

@ryanpaul Lmao  love it.  and depending on the fish it can  bring you enough cash to buy new forms.  a silicone forms is kinda like a giant salmon egg just put a little chum on it for flavor lol.   I have done alot of fishing prefer salt water stripers is my favorite.  lol  I can see the first mate cutting up the says catch all dolled up with an apron and guts all over it lol.. Thank you for that image Cheers RC

@river Hi River,

See if I can give you another giggle.

What you call "chum" to attract fish, we call berley. Old fish guts heads bait  etc in an weighted onion back hanging off the bow anchor post. There's an old lingerie/bra brand here in "oz" called Berlei, so we had "Berlei bags".  Cup size at your discretion!! LOL

I was 99% saltwater. (Google Western Port Bay Victoria) chasing snapper flathead, (cos they have one) and gummy shark. (no teeth) Work wise spent quite some time in Vancouver. I went salmon fishing with  a yachtie once out of one of the "Van" marinas. (false Creek???) Neither of us had any idea what we were doing, so no fish caught.

I'm much closer to 80 than 70, so I sold my boat 6 years ago and now live a retirement village in the "big smoke". aka Melbourne.

Still have some of my rods and reels, but cant see myself ever using them again.

Happy dressing, (and fishing if you still indulge)

Caty.

@river River... River... I could hardly fish Western Port Bay Victoria Australia from Melbourne Florida...

The "excess baggage" on a 5.5m "alllummiinnun", (we call 'em "tinnies)  fishing boat would kill me.

As for the "biosecurity risk", (plus the "aroma"of the chum/berley) would freak out the customs people.

Tho that stuff could probably go in the aircraft oil tanks and lubricate an engine or two for a while !!

Caty.

PS How did we get off the subject of cross dressing??..

I currently drive a truck, but I welded and repaired machinery working for myself for over a decade. I’ve worked on farms, in factories, some of my work took me all over the country.

I can only imagine a lot of people would be shocked if they only knew lol. But even when my partner and I go out, I’ve worn a bodysuit with women’s jeans and had my hair all styled up with earrings. Been around lots of people I know and no one really said anything. Being I have my own hair it’s not like I’m going to look a whole lot different with make up and dress on then I would without it lol. The tattoos always give it away lol.

I guess it is what it is though.

@juststevie Ok Steph  I think welder is more manly than a trucker except in the case of Winnie the Welder in the 1940s so sexy.   but trucker is up there . ill probably have to create a poll to go along with this. maybe a Truck Welder . thats a double manly. I love scuba diving and had a friend that was an underwater ship welder.  now that's manly and you get to wear tights all day lol.. Cheers RC

@river A scuba diving welder would indeed be manly. Of course, 90% of the job is having experience with technical diving and the rest of it is just burning stuff together lol. I was friends with a guy on a welding forum I was on for years and he did his share of it. They actually weld most stuff topside unless they absolutely have to weld it underwater. He was a very proficient diver and had been all over the world. Even dove caves and stuff like that.

I don’t believe he was a cross-dresser though. Unfortunately, he had some heart complications and it ended up killing him. He was about my age now and that must’ve been going on 10 years ago.

Being I’m in the garbage business might give me a couple additional manly points🤣🤣

Ha ha River,  I'm am an out, open, and full time intersex person.  During the day I wear jeans, flannels, and leather boots but on weekends I rock heels and bodycon dresses.  Here's a direct quote from my profile from a few years ago. " I am a retired biologist and video producer and now work during the summer as a part-time lumberjack and during the winter as a woman’s costumer."  I actually learned to cut trees when I was a teenager and now specialize in removal of individual dangerous or problem trees.  Besides having been a scientist and running a production company, I've also worked as a farmer, welder, Harley Davidson chrome plater, steamfitter, pit mine equipment painter, carpenter, hospital technician and CNA, cycle mechanic and oh yes, a computer jockey specializing in mid-range system installations, programming and trouble shooting.  I did jobs that seemed interesting to me and I usually was well paid while having a lot of fun.  I figure that I was paid to play.  Also still hear the Monty Python song from folks whenever I mention that I'm a lumberjack.  Right!  Learn, have fun, make money, stay healthy, play fair and be kind and live long.  Marg

@river You were close, River.  I'm in at lunch time and writing this wearing today's green flannel shirt ( I also have blue, red, pink and grey ones).  In reality, I don't look very manly.  I'm actually small (5 feet 5 inches and 120 pounds) and I'm not as tough as I used to be, so I vote for the firefighter.  Also if we venture outside of the human category and into the animal category, then it's a badger.  I crossed one once and never want to do that again. And yes, I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK....   Marg

Most of my career I was a white collar small business person, plenty of female equivalents to that one..

But my family own a manufacturing business and as busy times, I would go into the factory on my own on weekends and run the machines to catch up on production. I did it as Caty quite a few times. Lingerie skirt, blouse and cardigan.

Fairly clean process, so I did not mess up my clothes.

@river Hi River, Heavy Duty presses, with guards before they would operate.

If I did get a hand caught, i'd lose more than the cuff of my blouse. The material they used was hand loaded, I had more to fear from getting the coloured granules on my black skirt.!!

@rocheller Did they ever allow women in submarines?  my sister has worked at electric boat in CT its so cool watching the nuclear subs grow out of that building.  but she was never alowed to field test any of the sonar they worked on.  thats definitely one for the list as women were never even allowed.  Thank You Cheers RC

@river women can now serve on submarines, but the numbers are very small and only on certain boats.

@rocheller  I think it’s cool as hell that you work on a submarine. But that said, there is no way, never, ever, ever I would get on a boat that was designed to sink lol

No no no no no lol 🤣

A guy who used to post on a welding forum I was an administrator on years ago was a master chief I believe and he told some really interesting stories about life underwater. I remember him saying that there wasn’t a problem that a man had that couldn’t be solved once those hatches closed, lol

You gotta be wired different to do that job. My ultimate respect to you.❤️

  1. @river thank you for the opportunity. And yes all of us are wired a bit different. FUN FACT: Down periscope is probably the most accurate submarine movie there is.

@rocheller I so love that movie.  Such an important statement that people dont take to heart.  we are all wired so differently.  and that's what makes us all so perfect.  Heart  RC

@river my job on the boat could be described as a underwater handyman. And GROSS ALERT!: I have been waist deep in a half filled CHT tank.

@river I would just fo down the line withe professions: miner, lumberjack... etc. You don't need to include my stuff. I am not trying to win the "Manlyest job Olympics". Personally I would vote for the miner. I go under water... but underground.. not today sister!

  • @fatima Its pretty easy, because of the sociopolitical dynamic that is prevalent today. All of the guys know that it only takes one of to say "something happened" (wheather it did or not) and their career is toast. So most (me included) avoid them like the plague.

@rocheller I get you, in fact, I have brunch with a group of mil guys once a month and one who has spent time on a Canadian warship (yes, there is still one remaining) that was co-ed. He said the same thing. Avoid like the plague. Sad but true I guess. Was looking at a pic of IDF combat staff the other day. Women with long hair in full combat fatigues packin her AR in evidence.

@fatima they don't carry AR's. They carry either M-16's or M-4's. And fun fact: AR stands for Armalite Rifle not assault rifle.

@rocheller Yes I knew I was going to catch hell from somebody over that. I have a knock off AR15 and correct it is not meant as assault rifle but I still like her. I wasn't sure what the IDF guys use so I just put a catch-all name there. Please forgive me.

@fatima i wasn't trying to give you a hell. But the IDF is a very well funded army. No doubt they have some of the best equipment. I just wanted to clarify the term. Because a lot of people do think that is what those letters stand for.

I’m retired now but i once worked in a rural gravel pit as a test engineer.  We handled hazardous materials an sometimes things went wrong resulting in explosions and other assorted mayhem. The last year I worked there entirely alone.  I guess I had to man up to do that job.  Nowadays nobody would be allowed to do that due to safety considerations.

River, more of a patsy to lazy bosses, with a career in the toilet, but I survived.
