OK this might get a little long so I'll apologize now. I decided to take a trip to the Mall of America today to visit Macy's & get a makeover to see what I might look like with makeup. First I figured I had to go as a male as I'm not yet comfortable wearing my female clothes outside my apartment. I did pack my better clothes so I might change after the experience & wander the mall a little if I felt I looked OK, so I drove the half hour to the mall and when checking my bag I realized I forgot my wig (really need that!). I was nervous enough driving there & then to find that missing, well the nerves racked up a lot, so I did what any other women would do, I went shoe shopping first & found a great deal at payless, shoes were marked down to $15, I tried them on which I didn't even think about (my toes are still painted purple) so I take of my sneakers & socks & tried on the flats, perfect fit, when I take them to the register, they were marked down even further! $10 for this really nice pair of flats. Figuring my day was getting better I strolled into Macy's, looked at the different makeup counters & saw a MAC stand with a guy working & figured that would be the best place to look, I started browsing & in a couple minutes he asked if I was looking for anything in particular, I mentioned that I was hoping to find something to use on my face to cover up my "maleness" and could he suggest a good color, after a few more questions he made a couple of suggestions & then asked if I would like to see what they looked like on me? Well now came the big decision, should I go thru with this or not, figured what the hell I came this far so I said sure, sat in the chair & he was GREAT, put a little foundation on & asked how I liked it, looked good so we continued, he added a touch of color & then asked about lips, well sure why not, he suggested a nice redish color that I liked so then to the eyes (I have never even considered eye liner or mascara but figured why not, anyway the experience was GREAT, he explained everything to me as he worked & then even gave me a few notes to try at home. I ended up buying the lipstick, eye liner & final color powder, he thru in a small sampling of the foundation & a few sponges. Final cost $75 & it was worth every penny. Got to tell you new girls, if you are thinking about a makeover, go for it. The experience was fabulous & I was treated with respect by the technician. I will definitely go back to see him next time I am in that area or need more product.
Only down part, I had to wipe it off before leaving as I forgot my damned wig! Really wish I had that as I firmly believe BillieJo would have made an appearance at the Mall of America today. I am going to post my before & after pictures in a few minutes but be kind, I am mostly bald & hope I'll look better later today when I can fully dress & hopefully recreate the makeup job he did although I know it won't be the same as what he did.
Having a great day,
BillieJo
wow that is great. wish i had the courage to do that, that would be great to have a make over and see what i look like all with a make over by a pro. i did not know Macy's did that kind of stuff. i dress up at home when 2 adult kids are not home or in bed, wife knows, but will not help with make up or see me, but i know she does. i don't hide it from her any more and dress up and walk to kitchen or where ever in the house and let her see how pretty i am and she knows i am dressed up for she smells the perfume. love every min of dressing up as a female. its like who i should be.
Lucinda, find a day when you are alone, you don't have to be dressed for the makeover, he did mine while I was in my male clothes & then gave me the option to wear it home or wipe it off, I had to clean it off as I had forgot my wig & walking around as a female without a wig is crazy. He gave me everything I need to recreate it at home which I plan on trying shortly. Mine was done at Macy's MAC counter but I'm sure they would all do the same thing for you. Biggest thing, don't be too nervous ( I was but got over it quickly), they are great,
Hope you get the chance to try it

BillyJo.........what a fun story and adventure.....you could have purchased an inexpensive wig to check out the new you. I never could figure out why girls love shopping........now I know! Thank you for writing all about it!

Makeovers are awesome. Its like a mini-massage plus you end up cuter than you started. The salesman/makeup artist sounds like a cool guy. I think if i could walk into an Ulta or Sephora and talk to a male professional it would make it a lot easier to shop. Good for you!
