I just want to preface this story by saying it is very much a first world problem and a very trivial matter compared to what else is going on in the world, however it may raise a smile or two.
Well, I bought a new dress online last week. I'd had my eyes on it for a while then it went out of stock in my size which I was unhappy about and wished so hard that i'd just bought it straight away. I could have kicked myself. Unfortunately i already have about 15 dresses in my closet, more than my wife in fact - so its hard to argue that its a necessity lol!
I saw that there was a link to register your interest in case it came back in stock, so i duly set that up and then thought nothing more of it. Then around a week later I got an email saying it actually was back in stock. Well i definitely had to buy it then, it was obviously meant to be.
The dress came this morning so I shrugged out of my blouse and skirt unwapped the dress and tried it on. Without even doing the zipper up I could tell I was going to love it and it looked fab. But that's when fate intervened. Doing the dress up I got half way up and the zip just jammed completely. Don't get me wrong, it wasnt a size issue, the fabric wasnt being stretched, it just looked like it had been poorly stitched and got tangled. The zipper would go no further and nor would it go down! Luckily i was still able to shrug and wriggle the dress back down over my hips - but talk about a high to a low in the space of a minute! So back it will go and hopefully they have another one to send me that has actually been made correctly!
So it got me wondering: Have any of you girls had clothes disappointments, zipper malfunctions or dress disasters that you can share 🙂
Hi Polly,
Yes, I have been there myself and it can be such a let down. The problem with buying on-line is we are unable to examine clothing for flflaws and with my big fat body, I can tear a zipper or seam just by looking at it. Be careful to inspect your replacement and make sure they are putting a good zipper in the dress..
I once bought a pair of winter boots that used a zipper and it turned out the zipper was cheap and it broke after wearing them about 10 times. I loved the boots, they are so cute, so I kept them and am getting them fixed with a better zipper for next year.
Hi Polly
Hoping for you that they can replace it, and that its in the brighter greens or blues that look so awesome on you with your red hair.
I'm sure most of us have had wardrobe malfunctions. Mine was in my favorite peach lace dress that doesn't have closures of any type. It has always been a tad tight, just across the chest, I put it on ok while I was home alone but it was a warm day and apparently I had perspired some, when I went to take it off...oh shirt!! I was really stuck, with it halfway for an actual 20 minute time period.

I've never been able to find anything else that caught a spark in me like it does. It's still in the closet and I think I'll take it in to have a zipper installed.

Hi Polly,
That is a real pity about the dress, especially as you were so looking forward to it.
I remember as a teenager taking advantage of being home alone and putting on my mother’s underwear and dress only for a short time later to hear the dreaded car in the drive. A quick change was needed only for the zip on the dress to stick. Fortunately I could squeeze out of the dress and get my male clothes on over my bra, panties and tights. Also it was lucky that the zip had only caught on the fabric and was later freed.
It probably took a couple of hours for my heart to return to normal.

I've had a few purchase misfires, and quickly learned to pay attention to details when shopping; a few beautiful panties which were impossible to wear when I got home with them, and my first dress, which taught me to beware of things made of non-stretch fabric with zippers in back. And a few pairs of shoes which seemed to fit perfectly in the store, but when I got them home and actually tried to wear them...OUCH!
I just bought two tops off amazon , different makers, similar styles. One is a red long sleeve mock wrap style pullover and the other in a similar style in dark brown. The red one went on So smoothly I was thrilled ! The brown one not so much. I'd usually wear a size 20 (I'm not plus size I'm fun size!) But the brown one was much smaller, not stretchy at all and the sleeves were laughably short! My wife thought they were 3/4 sleeves but that wasn't mentioned in the description. So it has to go back. So the best thing I could do was pick up that cute mock wrap red shirt and wear it over black leggings. I love this top! It's stretchy, soft ,& so comfy ! I'll deal with the return tomorrow.
Ha ha, same problem many GGs will have had.
I've several times had the problem that a skirt snags in my half-slip while zipping up. And as you all know if the skirt has a zip it means it fits snugly over the hips and really doesn't want to slide down. The other issue is not wanting to damage the slip material!
Dresses I have had catch the zip on the little loop at the top that is meant to close with a hook and eye to conceal the zip and take the strain off it (and stop the zip sliding down!!)
I find with some gentle tugging it eventually releases. It is also I find MUCH more a problem with cheap skirts and dresses. I have this lovely skirt from a very expensive English make that just glides up and down!!

It wasn't my purchase, but a purchase made by my wife(for herself) that I had a wardrobe malfunction with. She had bought herself a black leather skirt that came just above the knee with about a 4" slit up the left leg. It looked amazing on her the first time she wore it, so I decided was gonna swipe it from her day and wear it(which she allows). I got all dressed up and it looked great on me. I messed around the house a few hours and all was good. I went to retrieve something from a bottom drawer, squatted down lady like and heard this awful ripping sound. Yep, the 4" split in the left leg was now about 10-12". I felt so bad, she had only wore it once.

Thanks for opening up this scenario post. Late last summer I bought a Jaclyn Smith yellow satiny material button-up long sleeve blouse at my local K-Mart store closing sale. It was an XL, my usual size. I also found a navy colored pleated sheer overlay skirt with yellow flowers on it and short tight light purple pencil skirt to go with the blouse. At home, I wore my 38C Smart & Sexy 2 max push-up bra with my C cup breastforms, to check out the fit of everything. When I tried on the blouse and pencil skirt combo, I extended my arms do to a little twirl. I then noticed the seam on the right side of the button line was shredded and tattered. I had experienced my first bra buster. I guess I'd swelled up with feminine pride, because both combos looked good on me. I'm planning on taking the blouse to a theater costume shop near me and see if they can cut a new blouse, of course make it a little bigger.
Well, wardrobe malfunctions happen. What is most common with me is putting on a brand new pair of pantyhose and I put a run in them.Fortunately it doesn't happen much.
My profile photo cream ball gown came from one of THOSE Asian on line retailers.
Muggins here mucked up the bust measurement and the zip would not close. My first ever professional makeover was only two weeks away, so on the day we "made do" with safety pins etc. But the first time I ever put it on I knew I had to have it in the right size.
So back on to the website and eventually the new dress arrived.
The "reject" was mailed up to Sydney and is now hopefully somewhere in a CD group members wardrobe. If it's not, then its gone to the charity shop gods.
I wore the later version to the 2014 Seahorse Society's ball, (the group above) and loved how the dress looked. But a rubbish make up job really took the edge off th night. Could have done better myself...

One I should have mentioned and I'm sure its "zipper zapped" us all at one time or another, is the wide variation in female clothes sizing.
EG I've been an 18 in my favorite "neat casual wear" Fella Hamilton since I started wearing this brand 10 years ago. Same goes for any slips or camisoles.
But there's many other brands of outerwear that I've worn/tried over the years that have to be a 20 for me to fit into them.
As you lovely US girls are wont to say.
(Literally) go figure!!
Happy (correct size) dressing

Zippers are so mass produced I'm not surprised when one malfunctions. I ordered two new pairs of sandals. They arrived one fit perfectly but the other had an issue with the left shoe. The right one fit perfect but the left didn't. So issues happen with everything once and a while.
