So as some of you will know already, I dress in secret while working from home. My clothes are stored in plastic tubs in the loft where my wife doesn’t venture.

Just before Christmas when the number of plastic tubs reached 6, I decided that I really needed a clearout in the new year, so I was quite pleased with the start I’d made earlier  this week when I went to a charity shop with 2 skirts, a sweater and 2 pairs of shoes.

However, also this week I seem to have acquired a pair of trousers, a longline cardigan, 2 bras, a bralette and 3 pairs of knickers.

I think I may need to find a local “Shoppers Anonymous” Group 🙂

@lucyb112   Your report is actually pretty joyful and consoling for so many of us, your sisters!  Maybe our most basic need is actually MORE storage!  Don’t we all long for our own closet, AND bureau, full of every precious feminine thing we own!  What happy girls we are that those thoughts and desire persist and grow!  You go, Girl!

hugs, Stephie

@lucyb112

I've given up fighting it.

I'm lucky in that, living on my own, I don't have to purge as such. However, I occasionally have a minor clear out to get rid of stuff that I haven't worn in a long while, or simply no longer like.

I have two problems though.

PROBLEM 1: As the empty space opens up, a little voice in my head says 'Hey Ellie ... look! Now there's room for NEW things!. Before I know it I've spent an hour on the Next website, an hour on the Marks & Spencer website and two hours on eBay and bought more clothes than I've just got rid of.

PROBLEM 2: When I take the old clothes to the charity shop, it would be pretty remiss of me not to start browsing their racks afterwards. And then, of course, criminal not to visit all of the OTHER charity shops in the local area. It's not unusual for me to take three items to a charity shop and come back home with five.

My solution is obviously NOT to stop buying clothes, as I'm having way too much fun for that. Instead, I'm drawing up plans to convert an existing linen cupboard into another wardrobe ...

Hugs

Ellie

@ellyd22 Maybe you should think about building an extension.

You could call it the Davis Wardrobe Wing 🙂

@lucyb112 I have many daydreams of building a secret room behind a book case, so when company comes  there are no questions like whats in there??  just pull out the book labeled Girl Time lol. maybe someday when we relocate,  this place is too small for that. I was doing the same thing in the eaves of the house . but now just a large locking suitcase that I clear out often I get bored with outfits too fast.. Cheers RC.

@lucyb112 @river

Why stop with a single room? With careful excavation over a number of years you could easily create a whole series of subterranean walk-in wardrobes.

@river one of my dreams is to get a bunch girls together for a girls night that would include a clothes swap, makeup and joking around. That would be a great way to help mentor others in putting outfits together and acquiring a wardrobe on the backs of us clothes horses!

Hi Lucy, I'm in much the same situation as you, except I work from my own house (the OH and I live at her house 20 miles away) so I can use my own hangers & drawers.  I know exactly what you mean about just seeing stuff online and buying it ... sometimes, working from home is a convenient euphemism isn't it 🙂  I think it's about time for some my current wardrobe to go, mainly things that came in bundles that I bought to start off with, but I haven't worn.  I know I'll look forward to filling the hanger spaces with something new!

Hi Fiona, yes it can be rather too easy nowadays.

It’s mainly earlier purchases that I’m trying to remove. Quite a few were just worn once or twice, if that. When I started dressing regularly a couple of years ago there was an Amazon Hub Locker 5 minutes walk from home. I had an awful lot of stuff delivered there.

Thankfully it closed. I’m now an M&S and Next girl

I am usually good about not getting stuff but I am awful at actually getting rid of stuff. There is so much stuff that I have never gotten rid of despite only wearing once or even twice.

Need to do that and figure out some new outfits that are better at day to day stuff

@lucyb112 would it encourage you to get rid of more things if you donated your clothes to women’s shelters or trangender groups? If find I can get rid of more stuff if I know it will be appreciated more by someone else.

@leainvancouver It’s more of a logistical issue than anything else, in that I have to get the stuff out of the house unseen, but that’s something worth thinking about.

Like you, before christmas I also did a clean up purge as Wendy's closet is full of her clothes.

Sadly, I had to donate alot of my skirts as they just didn't fit anymore (that was my criteria, if it doesn't fit it is gone).   I also donated some tops too.

Good thing as my wife bought me alot of gift cards for xmas to my fave womens clothing store and I really went to town during boxing week and bought alot of goodies.

@wendyswift Sounds as if you had fun Wendy.

I’m lucky in that everything still fits, so it makes it even harder to get rid of

Sounds more like a shortage of plastic bins rather than a shopping issue😘

@jjandme It was when I bought what I thought was plastic tub number 5, only to then realise that it actually number 6 that made me think “I really need to start moving some stuff out”

Like some of the rest of you, I was busy looking for something yesterday and dropped into an unrelated wormhole that led to me (impulse) buying a new Bra, Chemise with matching Boy shorts.

I just have to figure out how to offload some of my goodies, it's really hard to do even if unworn for ages.

Temptation Temptation. My New Year purchases, while small, meant I had to clear out the half drawer I was using and find a new bag (as well as somewhere to put it). Since I favour mostly lingerie my wardrobe is not too bulky. But the flimsies are a bit cold when trying to save on heating! So today I found a bright jersey dress in the middle of Lidl which I immediately took home. It may be acrylic etc and not glamorous but it's cheerful, comfortable and so much warmer with room for all the undies as I did not get a figure hugging size. But it won't fit in my new bag! Have decided to hang it in a non transparent clothes case in a wardrobe which my wife does not use and cross my fingers. But I did enjoy wafting round in it for a short time today.

@pleasancer Yes I have a couple of longer skirts that won’t fit in one of my tubs. They’re stored in a suit hanger in the recess of our wardrobe, along with an old work suit of my wife’s that she will probably never wear again.

One day she’s going to decide to have a tidy up and get it out.

If that happens I may have to try and convince her that the skirts were also hers…..

As it was said in Star trek, 'Space, the final frontier'. It usually starts with a few items and grows. If closeted the collection can be hidden but how much and where to hide it all and, worse of all what to get rid of. I went through that stage but every time something was discarded another appeared. Resistance is futile.

Once I got my own place there was a small wardrobe of clothes which inexplicably grew. When I started coming out and became more open my wardrobe expanded exponentially. There are now the discarded clothes in boxes in the attic classed as 'in transit' as who knows if they will be needed again. Every piece of wardrobe and drawer space is now taken up with a vast collection. If anything is bought the rule is that it must be worn and 98% conforms but a few items are for special occasions that may or not happen. One special occasion came up but there was three dresses to choose from so a couple are still Cinderellas.

There are clothes that have been worn many times and have been in use for a few years others that may have been worn once or twice but hang in hope of a future outing or consigned to the transit lounge.

Is this collection that is curated and added to by me an obsession? I compare my collection to sisters and friends and observe behaviour of real women who I shop with and can declare this is quite normal and nothing to worry about.
