Oh dear, this could be a problem.

I was out at a department store the other day, looking for ladies trainers in size 9 (UK) but alas, it was not to be, women just don't have feet that big as a rule. There was a particular pair I liked but only went up to size 8 (UK), so I thought I'd try them anyway; oh dear, they fitted.

Now you may be wondering why this could be a problem, Well, today, we went into the city and to a shop chain called Shoezone. In there I found a pair of boots I liked but again, no size 9, so I tried a smaller size. Now Shoezone have their sizes in EU measurments and there was a pair there that said were EU 41 (apparently UK size 7) and I could get them on. A little tight at the sides but not too bad. And now the problem: I can get into a normal women's shoe size! Do you know how devastating this is?! I now have access to millions of women's shoes that I assumed were off-limits to me; are you aware of how much this is going to cost me in the future?!!!

Yours, more poor than I was yesterday,

Becca

@rebeccabaxter

So I assume that we can expect a photo of a whole array of new footwear in about a week's time ?

@lucyb112 Even before this revelation, I already had a load of shoes and boots. This merely serves to make even greater demands on my shoe closet!

@rebeccabaxter In that case I am not sure if I should mention the fabulous boutique in Tavistock with a big range of very interesting lades' shoes

@rebeccabaxter Becca, I had sort of the opposite ‘problem’.  A few years ago I was visiting a crossdressing store in Germany and asked to try on a particularly lovely pair of high heel stiletto sandals.  They asked my size but then announced that they did not carry my size as I could get them in a regular women’s shoe store!  I was delighted that my shoe size fell within the range what is considered a regular woman’s size, but now had the daunting task of having to go to regular stores to buy my shoes (I am not out in public).  Still a nice problem to have….the solution is a combination of online purchases and help from my wife for in store purchases.  Hugs Christine Smile

@rebeccabaxter I’ve found shoe shopping to be very addictive. I actually apologized to my for all the times I said “ why do you need so many pairs of shoes.” As now I get it 100%.  Have fun and try the clearance racks. I’ve found some great deals on them.

@rebeccabaxter Show your wallet some restraint by answering to yourself, "Where, when can I actually were these shoes?"

@harriette Are you mad?! What sort of woman are you?! Restraint?!

I buy them then think "Where can I wear these".  It's flawed, but it's a philosophy.

Becca, despite being 6' 00" and 190 lbs I wear a ladies UK size 7, but as you'll know despite all those lovely heels, wedges and strappy sandals out there I currently have no opportunity to either buy or wear them 😢 xx.

Totally envious, Becca! A problem I'd love to have 😉

I'm lucky to have narrow feet, and while there are certainly more options available of late, my US 11½/UK 10½/EU 45 (and that's in men's) is definitely a limiting factor. :/

I have no trouble at all finding women's footwear in my size, so I've had to learn to get better at something that has always been a challenge for me: restraint! Boots especially! Cost is often my ally here, and I'm frequently asking my wife to "talk me out of buying these boots!" It only works about half the time as she's fond of saying "don't buy yourself those boots! Buy them for ME!" I wish we wore the same size, her collection is epic.

All you gals with feet small enough for women's sizes.... @rebeccabaxter @chrisfp99 @justnikki ....I love you all and I want to hate you 🤣

I wear a size 13 women's.  Sometimes a 12 will fit.  It is SO hard to find nice shoes that fit and don't hurt my feet.  Heels especially.

I would die for size 11 feet!  The selection would be relatively massive!

I keep telling myself to be grateful my feet shrank a size on HRT.  More please!

Hi Liz, you can add me to your love/hate list.

@rebeccabaxter What a dreadful problem to be faced with. If you are anything like me it is very difficult to walk through town without looking in the windows of shoe shops (or dress shops come to think of it); just toooooo many enticing options to choose from, however practical or impractical they might be.

I am happy I can wear ladies either UK 7 or 8, depending on the shoe. My wife and I don't have a humongous shoe collection and we both recently had to have a minor purge because of lack of space. Right now I am waiting for the winter boots to come back into the stores ... I had a really great pair last winter but unfortunately kicked the toes out (must be careless walking style). I bought 4 pairs of sandals this year - 2 flats, one block heel and one espadrille - and I love them all and have used them endlessly despite our traditional UK weather. I often wonder what else I should be wearing in summer but my wife and I are both adamant we don't want to wear trainers; she loves wearing heels, but I have found they have unfortunate consequences for my feet and knees so they are not much use day-to-day about town 😔 ; what's a girl to do in such circumstances?

Duly added to the love/hate list Rebecca.  Emphasis on the former obviously 😀

I have the same issue as you regarding heels.  I have yet to find a pair that are so comfortable I forget I'm wearing them.  I can handle my most comfortable heels for 4-5 hours before they have to come off.  Trainers and flats are staples.  I always carry a pair of ballet flats in my handbag if I'm wearing heels.

And yes, I do have a fair number of heels.  There ARE a few brands I can buy from.  Some are even legit shoe designers.  Still, the selection available in my size is miniscule compared to someone a few sizes smaller.

@lizk I feel your pain honey 🙂  I'm a US 13 Wide.  Lengthwise I'm just about an EU44 /UK10½ but EU45/11 in an E fitting is pretty reliable.  Until half the places decide that EU44=UK11 so then you've no idea what you're buying 🙄

There's not much around here, even less than in the US.  I can only think of Long Tall Sally and Asos for UK retailers but that said, I've got a surprising number of styles secondhand off eBay.

There really isn't much to choose from when you are bigger than an 11.  That seems to be the biggest size most brands carry, at least in the US.

Sam Edelmann is one of the few mainstream designers that goes up to a 13.  Torrid is another brand that goes to 13.  They also have some wide sizes.  There are also some small boutique brands that have large sizes.  Beyond that, you're looking at brands that market to the 'alternative' crowd and the cheaply made stuff you find on Amazon.

A shoe spreader can often fix the width issue if you have the right length.

The world is your oyster, well the shoe world anyway, enjoy it as much as your purse will allow. I wish I could join the fun but my feet sometimes fit in a UK 12 but sometimes that's a squeeze too. I would love a bit more choice in block heels rather than stilettos so I can wear them round the house without leaving dents in the carpet.

Yvette.

Becca -

What a lovely problem to have. As someone else said - restraint.

XOXO
