After nearly 40 years I've decided to sell my motorbike. So it needed a good clean up for the photos. After 3 hours of fettling & polishing I went in to wash up & looked at my hands. Noooooo....... my poor nails. The varnish looked like it had been attacked by a family of beavers (or maybe haggis) 2 had lost most of it & 1 had broken off entirely. Its funny really, 6 months ago this wouldn't have bothered me at all but now I'm almost in mourning. Also I decided to bleach my hair over the weekend (what's left of it anyway) now I look in the mirror & I see Ed Straker from UFO looking back at me 🤣 Sometimes you just have to laugh at the madness of it all.
Beat up nails is just a great excuse to get a manicure. Turn lemons into lemomade.
Unfortunately, I am speaking from experience. I had just done my nails and was rather proud of the outcome, but then proceeded to do a major woodworking project. Between all the tool use, sanding and painting my nails were trashed. I started over, but thrashed them again. I just used it as an excuse to change my nail color several times over the last two weeks.
There were some sexy-looking ladies in UFO, not as sexy as Space 1999 though.
Fake nails time? I found some wide-fitting ones in the drag shop in Brighton a couple of weeks ago.

Nail-wise, I started by using some Rimmel Supergel with it's associated hardener. It's not actually a gel polish because no ultra-violet is necessary (apart from a bit of sunlight if you can get it). I found it did odd things to my nails though, they started pitting and getting lines on them. Even now, you can see where I used it as the strange striations have moved up my nails as they have grown.
These days, I use two coats of a simple nail polish called W7 with an undercoat. The undercoat I also draw around the end of the nail as this seems to help prevent edge chipping. The resulting polish seems to last very well.
