I've needed to renew my US passport for some time now and finally got around to doing so this summer. I expected it would take months but they turned it around in just 3 weeks. Anyway, I had my gender marker changed from M to X (nonbinary) and was overcome with emotion when I saw it in real life. It was really something. Most surprising was the amount of congratulations I received from my friends and my wife (she knew I was doing this, not a surprise). I still take out and look at it sometimes. It's pretty neat!

Does your nation's passport support such a thing?

Wow ... that's wonderful!

Sadly, this is the current UK policy:

'As of now, UK passports do not offer a nonbinary or gender-neutral option. All UK passport holders must specify whether they are male or female. There have been legal challenges and campaigns advocating for the inclusion of a non-binary "X" gender marker, but these efforts have not yet resulted in a change in policy'.

@ellyd22 It's hard to believe that the US is more progressive about anything than anywhere in Europe! Hope the UK comes around on trans issues sooner rather than later...

Congratulations Nikki!  I'm so happy for you!

I recently updated my passport with my new legal name.  I paid extra for expedited processing, but I was still surprised at how fast the turnaround was.  Just 18 days.  I feel giddy every time I look at it.  FINALLY, I have a passport that shows my true identity!

Hugs, Liz
