I went out with the wife today and we ended up in a perfume shop trying out fragrances and I was rather taken by one particular perfume. Previously in life I'd always fancied being able to wear Dior Poison as it had some lovely memories from the eighties but it's only now I've started cross-dressing that I have the nerve to wear women's perfumes even while dressed as a man. I ended up having a disagreement with the shop assistant over the scent of Poison as she said it hadn't changed -- ever. I know that is not the case and is not the perfume it used to be. Anyway, I didn't buy any. What I did buy later on was some Good Girl by Carolina Hererra, it's a fairly heavy fragrance and I don't do subtle when it comes to perfumes so it suits me (at least in my own head).

What sort of perfumes do you ladies like? Heavy and in your face or subtle. Light Summer fragrance or heavy Winter perfume? Any particular brand or maker? Do you wear them as a man?

@rebeccabaxter I was out shopping for perfumes with my sister on Boxing Day (as you do) and she was shamelessly getting the women on the perfume counters to try out all sorts of fragrances on me. By the end of the afternoon I smelt like what my Mum might have called a 'tart's boudoir'.

I ended up buying a bottle of CK1. It's marketed as 'unisex' (spoiler ... it really ISN'T, and I'm pretty certain that's just a marketing ploy).

However, it IS gorgeous, and it gets even better as a little of the top note starts to evaporate. I'm now addicted to it, so ... thank you, big sister.

That said, had money been no object I would have invested in some Guerlain Mitsouko.

Sadly it's £90 a bottle 🙁

I'm taking early retirement in mid-July though ... and to mark the occasion I'm damn well going to buy myself some. At that point, it won't matter any more what I smell like on a day-to-day-basis.

After July 12th, I'm going to throw caution to the wind 🙂

And the wind will smell of Mitsouko.

Hugs

Ellie x

@elaines I second Elaine. Jadoir is great. Purchased it for my wife when we married, been a stapple ever since, 23 yrs. still going strong. I have always liked White Musk oil from The Body Shop. They changed it, but can still find the original on line.

@rebeccabaxter Love wearing perfume and I  do wear it a lot. While fully dressed and I’m male mode and one kinda in the middle when I dress in my woman’s jeans, tops , light makeup, perfume and no wig.  I noticed that while in my car I can smell perfume and figured it out that’s it’s on my seatbelt strap. I wear Alfred Sung, a couple different Guess ones and Eternity.

@rebeccabaxter I read the header and was going to write that I just started revisiting some of my older fragrances, one of which was Dior Poison, the original one though. I love those warm heavy scents. I just bought a small bottle of Opium. They just fit winter really well. I bought J’adore and La vie est belle in the summer last year they give me a boost and  make me feel happy wearing them. I also wear Opium and Poison in man mode

The shop assistant was determined that Poison hadn't changed over the years but it definitely has. The latest one does not have that sultry scent about it, unless it was the tester I tried, I thought it smelt like some sort of modified alcohol, really not nice at all. My wife bought me a knock off perfume that smells much more like the original and is under five UK pounds. It's called Chacal and in the UK you can buy it here, for example: https://www.shure-cosmetics.co.uk/chacal-ladies-55ml-pdt-milton-lloyd.html

Rebecca,

I started wearing Vanderbilt Petals.  My wife has several bottles of perfume that she does not use. After testing them, I liked this one the most because it has a lite, sweet scent.  I also wear it while in male mode.  Spray it on one of my wrists and then rub both of them together.  During the day, when I want to have a "Pink Fog" moment, I just smell my wrist.

I wear VS Incredible...because that's what the GF gave me that she doesn't wear anymore LOL

I have sort of identified with it though. I was out at a concert one time in guy-mode and smelled it and had a moment of identity crisis LOL There was some teen girl a row back it seemed to be coming from. 😆

My first ever edp was Taylor by Taylor Swift, 100mL.

Since then, my perfume collection has grown leaps and bounds, to over 30.  I try to buy 100mL bottles but somethings I have to settle on 30 or 50 mils.

My preference is something that smells like a candy shop.  I just love the sweet fragrance smell, an example is Sweet Like Candy by Ariana Grande and Sweet Tooth by Sabrina Carpenter.  A close second is Midnight Fantasy by Britney Spears and Thank U Next by Ariana Grande.  Cloud series by Ariana is also good.

So far my collection has alot of fragrances from Ariana Grande and Britney Spears.

Yes, I wear the perfumes as Wendy and in drab.

I switched a few years ago to Lancome LA VIE EST BELLE EAU DE PARFUM.

It has a floral fragrance and a big reason was my wife used it and I loved it on her.  Bonus is that when I do go out and she does smell it on me she does not recognize it is me that she is smelling.

I avoid using perfumes for several reasons. When I first started out going to parties, there would be 20-30 people in the person's living room. I can't imagine the clash of different people's perfume in such an environment.

When we have large religious gatherings, women are told not to wear perfume. Part of the reason is what I stated above. Another part is that some people are very sensitive to the smell of perfume, and being forced to sit next to someone wearing perfume (and sometimes overdoing it) could be problematic.

Perfume is designed to be long lasting, and I don't want the smell to remain when I went back to my male life later that evening and even possibly the next day.

For these reasons, I avoid using perfume.

I'm quite happy to smell like a perfumed woman when in drab and I also have my ears pierced and mostly wear feminine rings on two of my fingers. My acquaintances in a bar I occasionally frequent have definitely noticed something but absolutely no one has had the nerve to say anything yet. When they do, I shall just front it out and say I'm 'experimenting with my feminine side' and leave it at that -- no, I don't go en femme, probably never will, that would be a step too far in this little village. They all know me as a little eccentric -- I almost always wear shorts (winter or summer), although that might stop if I start shaving my legs, I always wear odd socks, and when I don't shave my face, I have a blue beard. Also they know that my son is gay as well so I'm rather an oddity round here, I don't suppose anyone is going to be surprised if I do something else a bit odd. 🙂

@rebeccabaxter If you're comfortable with it, go for it. For me, wearing perfume in male mode is a step too far.

I have been wearing my hair long for years and coloring the grey out for years, although I lost a fair amount due to chemo last year, and not knowing if I would lose it all meant coloring it may have been a waste of money. I did get my ears pierced a year ago, and with my hair shortening (breakage) my earrings are now visible. I'm often dressed stealthily in androgynous women's clothing. I have been getting waxed for 8 years, and no one has said anything about my hairless arms and legs (I go to the gym at work often enough for people to see). So I have definitely pushed the boundary in male mode. I have also been out en femme many times, even walking in my own neighborhood.

It's all a matter of where you are comfortable drawing the line.

@rebeccabaxter go for it! we always think others will make something big of our eccentricity but in my experience a storm in a teacup is the most that happens. I worked in construction and turned up at a social evening fully dressed en femme. The nicest remark I recieved was “Phil or Phylis, you’re  still my mate” the worst was “arent those boots (8cm heels) uncomfortable?” What was said behind my back doesnt matter because I dont care.

My absolute favourite is Angel by Mugler, but that's what my partner wears and she prefers me to wear something else... although I do every now and then wear some (and get a little playful rebuke for doing so😉). I do have a bottle of Angel Elixir that she gave me that she'd received as a gift, as she prefers regular Angel. It's slightly 'spicier' (?) than the normal kind, but it's still very pretty, and I wear that one most of the time.

What I would consider to be 'my' perfume is Flower Bomb by Viktor and Rolf, which I discovered when I received some free samples when buying my gf some Angel! It is very, very girly, IMHO. I am also quite liking Alien Goddess by Mugler (another free sample! lol).

I have two that I enjoy wearing. In the summer I love the freshness of Armani CODE. It has a bright sun kissed citrus feeling. Wonderful for both a men and a woman. It’s light and not over bearing to the senses.

In the fall and winter it Calvin Klein’s EUPHORIA for me. I love the smell and freshness of it. It reminds me of the hypnotic smell of an orchid in bloom with hints of vanilla. Fresh and clean. Best of all it just takes just a little to make a statement that will last the evening without being obnoxious.

Probably regarded as "mature ladies" territory, but when i can get into full Caty mode, Estee Lauder "Beautiful" both perfume and dusting powder. The latter when I just get out of the shower and have attached my forms. I make sure EVERYTHING!! gets a generous "dose".

Perfume when I'm full made up and dressed.

But.... Nothing since September a/. on going health problem, b/ got caught fully dressed by my DADT SO, so the subject of being able to have "Caty nights away from home" has yet to be discussed.

Hoping both will "go away" by the time winter comes. Too hot to "go public" in "Oz" in summer. 'Crossdressing is a winter sport".

Caty.

I know next to nothing about perfumes, so I don't broadcast my ignorance by indulging in fragrances, whether they are intended for males or females.

Will this change in the future as I develop my dressing? I doubt it.

I very infrequently wear scents for males and, if I remember correctly, have only tried female perfume once. Part of the reason is when I was working the wearing of scents was highly discouraged (I'm a nurse and wearing scents around patients wasn't a good thing due to allergies and respiratory issues). As a result it is very rare that I wear any, usually just special occasions. I think it would be fun to wear perfume just haven't tried any yet. My wife uses Chanel No 9 - too expensive for me to try, and that is hers. If I were to wear any I'd find something for myself. I think something in a nice lavender would be nice. This does have me thinking, have to see what happens.

XOXO
Suzanne

My favorite everyday scent is patchouli oil.

My favorite feminine scent is Timeless by Avon. Like you, it is a throw back to the 80's.
