I don't know if anyone else here have had anything like this happen. More than once on the land line at the house here I have answered the phone when someone was calling for my X and they thought I was her. Or today someone called for my son who moved out 7 years ago and when I told them he has moved out they told me 'thank you ma'am'. I guess my fem voice is close to where I want/need it.

I have been referred to as Ma'am just once. That was by a dental hygienist. I was dressed in stealth, obviously a man & it was a slip of her tongue, but nice to hear. She apologised when she realised what she said, but I said, "That's OK love, I answer to most things".

I answer a lot of spam calls with my female voice and love carrying on a brief conversation

I really envy you girls that have a feminine sounding voice.  It would help a lot if I could speak with a feminine voice.

Kerri, what I usually try to do is raise the pitch a little and lower the volume. If I start to talk louder my voice tends to deepen. I think that makes my voice a little 'softer"?

I have had a high voice for most of my life. I remember in elementary school I was always put in with the girls when we did choral work. I didn't know it at the time but I was gifted a choir boy voice. Unfortunately none of the teachers realized it. It did make me feel a bit embarrassed but got use to it and I could keep in pitch better than some of the girls.

My voice changed but I am still able to easily move into the female range. More than once I have been called Ma'am or miss over the phone. My voice automatically seems to go up an octave when I dress as a woman though.

I remember that I was going out for the night dressed in a very nice skirt and blouse when as I just grabbed my purse to go out the phone rang. It was my mother checking up on me. I answered in what I thought was a normal voice and my mother asked who was this.

I replied with a simple its me and she replied miss I don't know who you are but I would like to talk to my son. I paused for a moment to understand the conversation and realized my voice had gone into the female range.

I then purposely lowered my voice and said hi. My mother wanted to know who was the woman who answered the phone. I told her it was just me and my voice sounded strange do to me just getting up from a nap.

I assumed she bought the story but she later asked my sister if I was seeing someone.

Hi Cassie,

I have also had that experience of being addressed as Ma'am over the phone without any prompting from myself. I tend to speak softly anyway and I'm sure this must help. Of course, I always feel good when addressed thus.

The problem with lowering the volume is just that. If they can't hear you, and you have to speak louder, you lose some of the feminine quality.

If you want your voice to sound more feminine, try pushing about half of your air into your nose (talk through the bridge of your nose). Your nasal cavities are smaller and so the resonance will sound smaller, even if you speak louder. Experiment to see how much air to push up without sounding too nasal.

There is an App that I use to confirm my voice pitch and help me practice and stay in the female range, it is called voice pitch analyzer.  It give you a text to read and records your voice and then gives you a graphic to tell you where you voice fit in the Male - Nuetral - Female range.

I usually use it just before going out to get my pitch right.  There were a few old you tube clips on feminizing the voice that also might still be available.

Most of my current spam calls are robo-calls. I just hang up because the machine doesn't care what happens.

I remember a few years back I left a message on my home phone. When I listened to it later I was a little shocked I sounded like my grandmother. It was the pitch and cadence of my voice was so close to her's.

What is the exact name of this app, Barbara, and who developed it?

I searched for Android pitch apps and didn't see the name that you gave. Most voice apps related to singing, too.

I'm wary of any pitch app. There is a woman who does traffic on (at least) one radio station in New York City whose average voice tone is one note higher than my male voice. You can clearly hear her voice is feminine even though the pitch is low. If I talked one note higher, I wouldn't sound like a woman. If a woman and a man were to sing a song in exactly the same key (same pitch), you can easily tell the woman from the man.

A feminine voice has many more qualities than just pitch. There is resonance (how big or little it sounds), whether the words are staccato (sharp breaks between words - masculine) or legato (flowing one into another - feminine), modulation (change of pitch as we speak, often for emotional emphasis), and harmonics (higher frequency tones overlaying the base tone), just to name some of the more common ones. There is also word choice (how often do you hear a male say something is gorgeous or cute; have you ever heard a man at a restaurant say "I'll have ..." instead of "I want ..."), number of words, and talking directly on a subject or talking around it and going off on tangents before returning.

If you get just a couple of these right, your voice can sound more feminine without needing a pitch app.
