Do you remember phrases and quotes that your parents would often use or say to you as a child, that, you didn't understand, or simply made you do something, or maybe even frightened you. What ones can you recall?
Like," up the wooden hill to bed before the sandman gets you". Now I always ran up to bed and dived under the covers. What about "Have you got clean underwear on in case you have an accident"
"if you don't stop being naughty I'll sell you to the gypsies" now that frightened me and made me cry even more
"Eat your carrots or won't be able to see in the dark". Still can't see in dark and I eat loads.
If you make that face, you'll stay like it ". What's your memories of saying from early years.
Amanda...brilliant idea!!!.
Gosh , my childhood was littered with warnings....haha....
" If you want to act like a child, you'll be treated like a child"
.....I was a KID!!
" Don't sit too close to the TV, you will get square eyes"....
terrified me
" Money does not grow on trees"....
If anything was ever broken, it was obviously me!!!!!
and my favourite, if I ever swore....
" I'll wash your mouth out with soap"
So scary!!!!
Grace of the misspent youth xxx
Don't cross your eyes, they'll get stuck that way!
If you keep playing with that, it'll fall off!
And I'm back in the naughty corner... Grace, did you bring the whiskey?
Bridgette
Don't point. You will put a hole in the air.
If your going to cry, I'll give you something to cry about.
You know what thought did. He thought his leg was out of bed, and jumped out to put it back.
Wait until your father gets home.
The only one I can think about that hasn't already been said is: "If you want to cry I'll give you something to cry about" Like...how's that gonna help. Important note: My parents were never violent with me but they threatened...a lot. Mostly deserved I must admit.

The soap and feather duster were fearful items in our house.
Bridgette....I'm there so often, i have arranged home delivery...😂
Gosh feather duster? Do spill the beans please.
Gosh yes I remember that one, never made any sense either.
Love the bed one, I haven't come across that one one before Mary
Bridgette it's true though boys always fiddled
Just thought of another.....when we used to climb trees, right to the top...... dad would say
" don't come running to me if you break your neck "!!!!!!
Grace x
Yes good ones Grace,
"Eat your beans or your grow up mean"
The only one I have ever like that my father kept saying and turned out to be so true was, "If you keep playing with dolls your grow up as a girl" oh how perspective he was.
a psychic daddy....perfect !!
I personally use this one.
They request something early in the day such as a treat. I'll respond with yes after dinner. When they start to complain I remind them that they already got a yes and do they want to turn it into a no.
