So.  I’m sure their are plus size girls here like I am.  I’ve always going it tough to get a plus size wardrobe that really fits in all the right places.  By accident I bought a beautiful floral dress at a second hand shop.  I got home and realized it was a maternity dress.   So I got dressed and tried it on. To my amazement it fit really well in the breast and gave me lots of room for my belly.  I really feel in love with maternity clothes right there, dresses, jumpsuits, pant suits, lingerie and more.  How do you girls work around that plus size with clothing?

thanks. Hugs

Rosiebeth

There are a number of "big girl" stores.

Torrid is well known among crossdressers, but even Shapermint and Sheertex do leggings, camis and stockings / pantyhose, etc. Torrid, DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse), Rockport, and Clarks have wide shoes. There are others, of course.

For me, thru the years, after I finally got it down as to sizing/labeling of women's clothing...and of course, "trial and error" from experimenting, I narrowed myself down to a 22/24 or 3X, in Plus Sizes, as well as 48C in bras...then I was OFF to make up for all the lost time...where online ordering thru Amazon, Ebay, and a few internet, specialty shops, became this crossdresser's "best friend"...!!! The real trick, I found out, was using a tape measure to determine your correct size...THEN, finding the proper styles that will compliment your figure/desired look...then finally, getting value/bang for your buck..."the rest is history"....!!!

Don't forget your local friendly Walmart. I buy many of my clothes from them, plenty of plus sizes there. My local Walmart has sizes up to 3X, often 4X on the racks.

Hi Rosiebeth,

With broad shoulders and narrower hips separate tops and bottoms often work out to pair together.  As others  have mentioned there are plus size clothing stores so you can try items on to see the fit.

As you mention having a large abdomen can be a problem.  So Shapewear is your friend.  And there are tricks to detract from the problem areas and accentuate your lovely legs.

The plus size store associates can help with suggestions to style an outfit that moves the eye from your beer belly or broad shoulders.  This can allow one to blend in.

And as you suggest the thrift shops may offer some surprises too.

Alice

Lane Bryant, Torrid are great, be careful though and watch for the sales, because it could become expensive. Maurices has a fair amount of plus sizes also. Good luck and enjoy shopping.

I had thought about getting a maternity dress or top, but never did. Instead I wore empire waist dresses or blousy or loose bottom tops that tended to hide the belly.

Online, Roamans, or their sister sites (Woman Within, Catherine's) offer a large selection of plus size clothes, as well as larger and wide width shows.

Kohl’s a great selection of plus sizes. They make wearing a plus size less stressful. What would be a XXXL normally, is labeled as Plus 1XL. At least you feel better!
I also have visited the thrift shops. Find most of my skirts there. Many times they have been bought but was never worn by the first owner. Shoes have been a hassle. I find Amazon a good sources for large size heels and flats. I have seen up to a size 16 wide, but not often. The most you can find in a thrift store for shoes are 11W.
Some times yard sales, but never found much going to one.

Thank you.  Those are all good ideas.  Fortunately for me I fit into a 9.5 heel.  My only saving Grace.  TeeHee.

I have thought about a maternity dress before but not jumpsuits I have been looking for jumpsuits. Thanks for giving me the idea. I could pull off that look of being pregnant with no problem. 😉

Rosie Honey,

Size is just a guide number. I buy what fits, then cut out the tags!

I am 5'6", 195 lbs and right on the cusp between size 16-18 and XL, so a lot of my things are from the plus catagory. I think of it as "plus" being addition! And I love my extra anatomical parts too!

I hit the Torrid clearance rack monthly. Found some great deals. Last was a cute floral print dress for 15 bucks. I was giddy.

Try Bloom Chic. They have a great selection of all kinds of clothes, great prices and they go up to size 30. I have bought several dresses from them.
