Obviously not a question for those of us who are closeted but I just has an ad pop up elsewhere for a local make up salon offering permanent lip colour & eyebrows. The photo's of the results do look good & it got me thinking (as these things do) Has anyone tried this or anything similar? What were your results like, how long did it last, what were the reactions to it? I would be interested to hear how it went if you did try it. Since it is "permanent" & quite noticeable it would be sure to be a game changer, no hiding away any more. Am I brave enough to try it? I don't know, more research is required.

Hi, Sasha.

I have a natural reluctance to anything permanent, it's just so...permanent! I'm unsure how actually permanent it will be though, gone are the days when I might believe even a fraction of marketing claims. I suppose, though, it'll be more permanent for us than it would be for a youngster 😳.

As ever, please keep us updated.

@alexina "permanent" seems to mean 1-3 yrs. Even the sales pitch admits that. I find the idea that it would sort of force the issue intriguing. For anyone who was in/out & needed a push to be themselves in public would this be the thing that did it.

&, as ever, you can count on it.

Interesting question, but not an option for me because, although I am out and about freely in the area I live, I am not out to family.

I am a bit puzzled by the idea though. With normal make-up you can vary the look depending on the outfit you are wearing, daytime or evening, summer or winter (or halloween coming up 😱 ). I assume with PMU you get a fixed style and that's it! I am not sure why someone would opt for that?

@fembecky In my case I have one brow which has gone white, but only half of it! it kind of looks like I have a badger nestling over one eye. This is why it piqued my interest, I could just use a pencil but that needs constant maintenance & this way it is a one shot deal. So I would say a fixed style is desirable, it's not like you can really restyle brows anyway. Interesting thought actually, "I think I'll try dreadlock style this week" 🤣 Perhaps not.....

The lips colouring I saw in the ad was actually quite a subtle pink & could easily be changed if & when required although I have seen bright red as well. I think this particular example was just an aid to natural colour so it could be argued that there is no point anyway but everyone has their own take on whether such things are desirable.

Is halloween even a thing in the UK? in my experience it is just an hour of kids knocking on doors looking for free sweets. I've never known anyone over the age of 15 who bothers with it. I know it's a big thing in the U.S. but I didn't think it had transferred here. If you have plans for it I hope you have a nice time.

Hi Sasha, I see where you are coming from on some aspects of PMU now, and that could make a lot of sense 😀 .

As far as halloween is concerned your experience of it is about the same as mine. Some years we get more kids than other years, and some years the youngsters go to great lengths with their outfits and look very good. However it is not for me, and my mention of it was in recognition of the girls the other side of the pond!

@sashabennett I haven't done it yet but I would love to get eyelash extensions and my brows microbladed.  Maybe one day soon...

@sashabennett My nail tech had her lips done by the owner of the shop. And a girl I work with had her brows done.  Me in my position wouldn’t be up to trying it. Besides I enjoy applying my makeup and I like the fact I can change my lip colour with different outfits.

@cdashley I can understand your position here, it's not for everyone but what did you think of the end result on the people who did get it done? I'm interested to know how it looked & whether they thought it was worth doing or not, was it something they would recommend, was it worth the money etc.

@sashabennett Sorry hun I’m not sure what it costs but both looked really good. Especially the brows on my friend from work. My nail techs lips do look good as she went with a lighter colour.

@cdashley I know it's not cheap, about £300, that would be $530 in Canada. An eyebrow pencil & lippy is certainly the more cost effective option but thanks for letting me know what you thought.

I know nothing about permanent makeup but I do know all about tattoos. I know that, at least in my case, one needs a reason to have it done, be it: it looks nice, it's reminiscent of something, it commemorates something. What ever the reason, one thing to remember, once you've got it, it's not going away anytime soon.

I always get my tattoos applied where, if I need to, I can cover them up. The thought of doing it to my face does not come into the equation (although some people do it; they have their reasons, I suppose).

@rebeccabaxter I've thought about getting a tattoo but haven't because of the permanence of it. I wouldn't be able to decide what I would want or if I did what if I didn't like it in a few years. I told my wife that last year for my birthday. She asked if I thought about getting  my ears pierced, which surprised me. I told her I had and she offered to let me get them done for my birthday which I did. Much better than a tattoo as I can change my earrings with my mood and look - studs or small hoops for everyday, dangling and flashy for dressing up.

As for PMU, it is something I would never consider.

@rebeccabaxter Yes, I have a few tattoos, which are easily covered in most cases. I got them in my early 20's & have often considered getting more but have never come up with anything else that I wanted enough to go for it, with one notable exception. There is a restaurant called Miss Ko in Paris which had some publicity work done by Phillipe Starck showing an astonishing full body suit tattoo which is now my desktop background picture. Now if I had a spare 20 grand (& the body) then I might reconsider that.

I think brows & lip blush aren't really in the same category as facial tattoos, which I really don't like anyway but I see your point.
