Hi girls.

I almost have everything I need to pass as a real girl except a good wig.

Does anyone have any advice as to wear I should get one that is not going to cost a fortune.

Hi Nikki

I have bought two wigs from The Breast Form Store.

I find the staff at The Breast Form Store to be very helpful.

I am really happy with the quality of the wigs and the price I paid for both.

If you are up to it I would recommend going to a shop. If you question the service you will receive you can call and tell them your situation-see what they say but I can't imagine most would not be happy to help. Many have a private area to try on wigs so ask if they have this.

A good quality wig is worth the money but you do not need human hair to have a very nice looking wig. There are a lot of online places that sell wigs so I can't recommend one but I would check the return policies should you go this way.

My reason for going to a shop is more about how the wig fits your face and body. Looking at photos on models or mannequin heads can be totally different then how they look on you-seriously different. Some online wig companies have great info of wig shapes and styles to fit the style of your face and body. Another great site for this is sisterhouse.net. I found CDH though sisterhouse. They have a huge library of  information to help in the CD and Trans lifestyle.

You don't have to spend a lot to have a nice looking wig.

My regular wig would be in the 150 to 200 range and I have worn it for years. I still get asked if it's my real hair but I also take very good care of it.

Good luck,

Sandy

I bought my first real wig just yesterday. I somehow mustered the courage to walk in to the wig shop, look the salesman in the eye and say "I want a female wig for me."  He hesitated for a few seconds but recovered pretty quickly. I'm glad I went there. They were very helpful in picking a style that suited me perfectly. $175 was a little than I wanted to spend but they gave me 6 month no interest financing

I bought my first wig in a wig shop I unexpectantly came upon during a shopping trip. I walked in and told the sales girl I wanted to try out a wig to bring out the woman I knew I had inside me. I think it was the third that was a keeper. Suddenly I saw Marianne even without any makeup on.

I have since bought half a dozen other wigs, some new online but most second hand. Obviously many former cancer patients sell off their high quality wigs at bargain prices after treatment and you can find nearly new human hair wigs for a fraction of the retail price.

Where might you find these second hand wigs?

For those not ready to invest in a more expensive wig, or can't find a reliable wig shop, or are unsure about what style or color will work over time, you might try an online supplier called The Wig Company. Prices from under $50 to several hundred. You can get advice over the phone, samples through the mail. Return policy is fair. If a less expensive wig is basically fine in every way except that it looks cheap, then you might be in a better position to make a long term investment.
