Hey all my lovely girls, got some urgent news!

Hackers breached Twitch today, and not only stole, but made public on a website (4chan) that is not known for being populated by nice people, their entire database, which includes the Twitch source code, as well as all account login data and passwords.

Having the source code will give them detailed insight into their security measures, access protocols, etc. for even further breaches in the future.

OK, you're saying to yourself, I don't play online games, and certainly don't stream them, how will this affect me?

It can affect you, and very likely will! Amazon owns Twitch, and the Twitch data is also linked to your Amazon account so they can keep track of purchases, and give out in-game freebies, etc., even if your accounts have totally separate logins.

So you need to change your Amazon password *immediately* just to be safe! No one knows just how interlinked the Amazon and Twitch's databases are, and these big corporations are not known for sharing the whole story in cases like this, or how they manage their data. If any of that source code is shared, Amazon's database is exposed too!

If you do use Twitch, for any reason, working at home, conference calling, gaming, etc. then you absolutely need to change it for Twitch immediately as well!

Be very wary of any e-mails you receive sent to the e-mail account you have on file with Twitch/Amazon, too. The hackers have that data as well.

Please don't think I am just being dramatic about this, it is a real threat to your security and finances!

If not already done, Amazon (and many other) have 2FA or MFA capability, enable that. Then it's not enough with just account name and password, they also need your authenticator info (or sms to your cell but that's less secure).

Many thanks Dianne, (and Kelly too as I post this),

Staying on top of security is probably seen as a pain by many internet users - they often assume e.g. Amazon and their banks are 'on the case'.

It's your amazon account. Time to own it. It's quite straight forward to set up 2FA - two factor authentication aka 2SV - two step verification. And sadly an extra pain.

My recurring nightmare is that I lose the phone I use for the process, but these days, you've just got to take security seriously.

Google e.g. 'wiki MFA' for a quick explanation of what that one's all about.

Thanks for the warning Dianne...I have just updated on Amazon....

All the world needs at this moment, is Grace's container ship being diverted as well as all those others....

Gosh the older I get, the more my life is literally ruled by "passwords and pins".....( wasn't that a sixties song by the searchers????.....🤣🤣 )

oh god, what foresight!!!!

Thank you for the update.

Being in the industry, this annoys me to no end.  I do not understand why businesses (big or small) do not take IT security seriously.  It is almost like an after thought or a non issue.  When dealing with your customer's info, it is a big deal.  So now end users are left dealing with an issue the business is too lazy to deal with correctly from the get go.

Twitch is owned by Amazon so this means Amazon could been hacked too. This might lead to other big breaches soon. Change passwords on Amazon would suggest.

Whoa! Freaky! I read your post and the responses and then clicked on another page and got multiple error messages and couldn't get any other pages to load. I panicked and thought "Oh no, CDH has been hacked!" I exited everything and rebooted. Everything came back normal. Scary moment.

I suspect there is a general cyber attack going on, lots of hacking of major sites, and direct server attacks of major corporations this week. Looks like some group is trying to cause general chaos. A group has now taken credit for the Twitch attack yesterday.
