hi ladies!
lately i am noticing dry flaky patches on my face. i rub moisturising cream in but it keeps coming back. i also need to pay more attention to my nails between trimming them. could any of you ladies reccomend a skin and nail routine that would help?
fondest regards
sandra
Hi Sandra, that’s a good question. It depends what type of skin you have. I suggest exfoliating when you shower to remove old skin cells, then using a facial toner to moisturize your skin. Use facial oil or facial moisturizer on your face before bed. It’s also a good idea to use a similar routine on all your skin often to keep your skin healthy and young looking.
As for nails, keeping them clean and well shaped will keep them looking nice. If you’re like me where some of my nails split or soften toward the ends, I try to keep them dry as I notice washing my hands often tends to damage them, as does using my nails as a tool to remove or pry open lids. 😉. Using a blow dryer on low heat helps them dry out. I use a clear nail hardener on them to keep them strong and attractive. There are also nail oils available where you buy nail polish if you don’t want to use the hardener. Buffing your nails with a very fine grit board can help keep them looking nice
If your nail really need help, I suggest taking biotin daily as it promotes harder nails and healthier skin. As nails grow slowly, it may take 6 months before you notice an appreciable difference at the ends.
I use a facial serum and recently, I went to my wife's hairdresser where they also do nails and had them tidied up -- buff, cuticles etc. I went in drab and they didn't bat an eyelid. In a couple of weeks I'm going to get them to gel my nails as I often wear red nail polish, even in drab, anyway.
Facially, I have a vitamin E serum that seems to be pretty good although my wife swears by plain old baby oil.
I ought to get my nails tidied up. It's really frustrating though, that I only seem to be able to grow them so long before they catch and tear, or I just find bits of them missing. There's a vertical split in one that I can't get to grow out. Somehow, paying for work on them doesn't seem worth it until I can reliably grow them in the first place. Meanwhile, press-on falsies cover most sins when I need them.
Facially, I use a moisturiser after shaving and that's it, unless I'm going into makeup that morning when I'll use an aftershave balm instead. Recognising the bottle that Tracey at Femme Side Studios introduced as her make-up primer will hopefully have saved me some money over the longer term!
Okay ladies, here is my skin care routine. I am a full time girl, and wear full makeup each and every day. I am also an intersex female, something I found out a year ago. That has always provided me with, what women have often noticed as, very nice and soft skin. It is also quite dry and requires constant moisturizing. I will go through my routine and mention each product as it is applied.
I must mention that I still have to shave to remove any facial stubble.
I wash my face each morning with CeraVe hydrating and moisturizing cleanser. This is followed by a moisturizing primer that is applied to any area that will have foundation makeup. I also apply a lip primer to my lips prior to using my lipstick. My daily makeup is now applied and I carry on with my day.
At the end of my day I remove my makeup using Clinique 'Take The Day Off' eye and lip makeup remover, followed by removing the rest of my makeup, and cleansing my face again, with the CeraVe cleanser. This is followed by messaging Clinique 'Moisture Surge", a moisturizing overnight facial mask, over my entire face. The last thing before pillow time is applying a moisturizer to my lips.
I also use other skin care products that aren't applied daily. These are a '7Day Scrub Cream' by Clinique. It's a gritty cream used to exfoliate facial areas that tend to get flaky skin, you rub it in for a few minutes and rinse it off, it works quite well. Other than my face, for the rest of me, I have three brands of body moisturizer, Clinique 'Deep Comfort', CeraVe moisturizing cream and Nivea 'Body Milk'.
Most of you aren't wearing full makeup every day, so obviously won't need to follow my routine, but I highly recommend using moisturizers on you skin, facial and body, on a daily basis - it does make a big difference!
