I just watched a episode of TNG (S5E17) on Netflix. It was about a gender less race called the J’Naii. Occasionally one of them has feelings that they are either male or female. They must hide their feelings of being male or female. They live in fear of being discovered and reprogrammed not to believe they are of the gender they feel they are. A very interesting episode.
Yes, that was an interesting episode. The sci-fi comedy Orville also tackled the issue of gender identity as one of its characters was of an all-male species. The show tackled how such a society would deal with offspring born female, and the ends to which society would go to hide the actual number of such offspring.
I remember that episode. The entire Trek franchise used social issues as the basis for many episodes. They even featured the first interracial kiss. I don't recall any actual CD episodes, though.
Finally a Star Trek topic! 🖖
I'm a huge Star Trek fan, and own the complete TNG series on DVD. I do remember that episode, and I'm glad that you started a topic about it. A very interesting episode indeed.
Anyone remember when on the TNG that the guys were wearing dresses also. didn't last to long.
That could never happen here in the United States(see my tongue in my cheek!) 🤨🤔🤨
That same episode was on BBC America today on my cable network. The thing that really stands out and bothers me about the J'Naii is how sad and emotionless they were, and also how resigned they seemed to their fate.
Theirs is definitely a society that we as humans should avoid at all costs. And the memory erasure they did seems so cruel as to be reprehensible, much as the involuntary lobotomizations 'civilized' society used in the world's own near history. Learn from it, or repeat it.

I believe you're referring to the "skant" uniform that were shown briefly in the episodes "Encounter at Farpoint" and "Conspiracy" as well. It was phased out in 2365. 🙁
"Beam me up Scotty".
Very successful show, anybody remember "Lost in Space?"

Which Lost in Space? The original or the reboot? The new one is worth watching.
I grew up with the original, plus Land of the Giants, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Space Patrol etc Happy times.
