Hi Ladies,

I feel sure that most of us in our CD life have been confronted with splits on the edges of our silicon forms. From back when I had a "few spare shekels" I bought a pair of Amoena Contacts. ie self adhesives. They aint cheap!!

In thees latter days of lesser "funds", I was concerned that as I wear them in a bra in bed every night and they tend to "merge" whilst I'm sleeping,. Meant the ends would meet and curve upwards.

Eventually this may have led to splitting.I cant afford another pair!.

So I used the waterproof adhesive tape commonly used for securing bandages or sports tape.

No more risk of splitting!!

Hope this helps someone

Caty.

@ryanpaul Good idea Caty, mine did the same and both split at the bottom so I used some tape to save them. And yes the are expensive to replace.

@cdashley I had an online shop tell me that if you find a shop that does not take insurance they will be cheaper because they are not allowed to have the insurance price and then a non-insurance price.  The ones I am looking went from $299 each to $150 each for the exact same forms.

@ryanpaul Caty, I'm pretty sure she means medical insurance. If the place you bought the forms from sells them to women who have had a mastectomy, then medical insurance would likely cover part or all of the cost of the forms. Sometimes they will charge a higher price to get more from the insurance company. If the store doesn't take medical insurance, they may charge a lower price knowing the customer has to bear the entire cost.

@ryanpaul in the US health insurance pays for breast prothesis for people  who’ve had mastectomies. So if the shop is selling to that market and the customer in using health Insurance to pay the bill it is higher because it is other people’s money. Sad thing that medication here can cost $100 copay and then the insurance pays hundreds more, but locate the exact same thing at a druggist who allows private pay it might be $10 in place of the $1000 with insurance.  Our system is messed up.

@paulapantyhose  Thanks to you Paula and also Alison. Ok... I "geddit" .. We would call that private health insurance sold via (mostly) the internet, not via the vendor of the prosthesis . Tho here in Australia we have a Federal Universal heath scheme called Medicare which would cover the above free of charge, ( I think maybe one every ???)

As another (unrelated) example, as an Oz "Senior", I dont pay for GP visits or many other medical bills, eg x rays/blood tests/ ultra sounds etc.

Thanks again,

Caty.

My wife, sort of playfully, grabbed and squished hard a pair of cheap forms. One of them immediately split. She laughed, I didn't. 😬

Because it was the only close to appropriate tape that I had at hand, I used the ubiquitous duct tape to keep the split from getting worse. Nothing shows through good bra.

I've had some silicon forms start to leak out, and I've put them aside and not worn them again. I had thoughts of using the home heated plastic sealers for food to reseal the edges, but I don't have one and I'm not planning to get one just for my forms.

Instead I went with Pals forms, which aren't silicon but are a gel form. They aren't in a plastic container so there is nothing to split, they can be cut and cured with baby powder, and are sleep safe. You can't use the same glue as you can with silicon forms, and the one time I tried the glue they gave (read: sold) me for the forms, it didn't work despite being held in place for hours before I attempted to let them free. (The glue looked a lot like white craft glue.) I have not tried again as it just wasn't worth it.

Because I went a size down when I bought the Pals forms, I probably won't try to repair the silicon forms.
