I now have a nice new wig (my first wig that I am going to wear frequently) and I am wondering how to safely store it away when going away for a holiday in the summer to visit and take part in a Pride parade and event. I don't wear my wig all day every day and want to keep it in a nice condition, I don't want to ruin it by packing it away in a holdall amongst other items of clothing while travelling on holidays. I do have a white polystyrene wig stand which I use at home but it is very lightweight. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
I would think that packing it in the box it came in as it was packed would be the ideal solution. If it didn't come in a box then find a lidded box that will fit the wig, roll the hair into the cap and place it in a hairnet. Surround the wig with crepe paper to stop it moving and put the lid on.
Of course, wearing it while traveling is by far the best if that is not an option packing it as loosely as possible helps. To be honest, I do not treat my two wigs well and the SAs at the shops I bought them would be aghast, but I just put mine in a bag and pack it in my duffle. Mine are synthetic, so prestyled and do fine with just a brush out when I wear it. That said, I will now turn it inside out, thanks Ellie.
I have put wigs in lingerie laundry bags. These are the (usually white) nylon net bags with a zipper opening. They keep the hairs from tangling with each other or with anything else when not in use for a long time.

I don't travel so really can't give you personal advice on how to pack a wig. With that said there are wig bags and collapsible wig stands that can be used.

I purchased a wig box from Amazon to protect and not crush my wig in my suitcase.
I also purchased a collapsible wig stand to air my wig out when I got there.
Hi Alison, When I travel with a wig I just lay it on its side in a plastic bag and pack it among softer clothes. Then when I get to my room I give it a good shake and turn it inside out and put a clothes hanger hook through the top of it and hang it in the closet. When I'm ready to wear it I just reverse it, shake it, and put it on. Somewhat similar to what Ellie said. I hope this helps you. Marg
