Well to day was a beautiful sunny day, a chance finally to get out into the garden. One of the first jobs was to repair the stone bird bath. Over the last couple of months it's be frozen solid, with sad unrewarded visitors. So today I repaired it, cleaned it and replenished it. Wow what a reward for a job done, not at all bothered by me gardening , the hedge sparrows and buntings were diving in and out of the hedge to the bird bath none stop, seems like they all wanted to have a bath, sometimes all at once. Robins, wrens, blackbirds and blue tits . I even had to refill it at one point. Such a little thing that meant so much to theses birds, but what a pleasure to watch and to listen to their chatter as they zipped around the garden in the warm sun, totally oblivious of me.
Isn't it great to have nature all around you? Basically ignoring us and found their things. There's a small herd of nearly tame deer here (you're not allowed to hunt them inside city limits). A mating pair of Ospreys mate each year on our neighbors pier, and today we looked our and there was a bald eagle sitting majestically on a pulling on the river. Of course I can do without the family of trash pandas that invade my bins nightly.

I sometimes just stop and marvel at the majesty of God’s creation. Interestingly, being in girl mode makes me more sensitive and aware of the beauty all around me.
Sitting outside in the backyard listening to the birdsong is one of life's little pleasures that one can enjoy at any time of the day, being dressed while doing so puts a keener edge on the experience, heightened perceptions perhaps?
Yes, things like that are so wonderful in life! Here we still have considerable snow on the ground, but at least it's starting to melt! Still we have many winter birds coming to my feeders. I often sit and eat my breakfast and watch them eat theirs.

Hi Amanda, it was lovely to read your description of your garden and the bird visitors to it. I can't get back to my garden; it is still under two feet (60 centimeters) of snow and a very frozen bird bath. And it just snowed again (third day in a row). Maybe in four to six week's time, a lot of the snow will have melted. Well enough melted so that I can start doing some spring tidying work back there. Looking forward to getting the backyard fire pit started again. And to start cooking on the BBQ on the back deck. The BBQ is also still buried under snow right now. And hopefully the lockdown will be lifted and we can have the grandkids over for visits once again. That would give us a great deal of pleasure. Stay safe, stay healthy, Hugs, Krista.
That is awesome, Amanda. We were fortunate to live a mile from a 1,000 acre wild bird sanctuary so Blue jays arguing over territory with squirrels while ignoring us having a sundowner was just part of the background of bird calls. I can recall going out for a walk one day after getting home from work and seeing 8 young bald eagles soaring above me. It is things like that which make one appreciate what nature has to offer.
Warm hugs

I have a blackbird ( probably not colin), who perches at the top of the tree across the road most evenings... beautiful songster!!!
Well done honey....
I so agree with your birdbath repair..birds really do need to drink as well as bathe...i keep an old dish full of water in my garden and its topped up daily...its quite amazing the amount of birds that drink from it....

...hmmm...
sounds dreamy Rowena...but crossdressers need to keep an eye open for Bald Eagles hovering over our heads......

Smiles, grace xx
LOL! Is that the voice of experience my dear Grace? 😉
Feeding and watching the birds in the garden has become something of an obsession during lockdown and since the feeders are just outside the window of the room I work in, far too much of a distraction sometimes!
I put a mix of different foods out, so get lots of different breeds from the spectacular goldfinches and siskins to the more humble dunnocks and sparrows. I also have a sparrowhawk that visits occasionally - I guess he sees it as a bit of an all-you-can-eat buffet...

Wow your so lucky Bridgette.
Yes anywhere you have a bird table you will have a sparrowhawk. Rescued one a few month back, got itself caught on a transportation cargo net. Thick gloves and a towel did the trick, what a beautiful bird of pray.
Hi Amanda we had a water feature in our garden, which attracted pigeons by the flock we got fed up with them and removed the water feature. However in recent years we are seeing Red Kites which hover over our area, these are beautiful and they never intrude.
