Type in a search engine for an image of the 'Nerve Homunculous'--note the hands!

This is the problem I get when trying to find bracelets. My wrists are quite small, my hands are not (although probably not as pronounced as Homunculous hands). I'd love to wear bright and sparkly bangles, but almost all of them are designed to fit over the slim hands of ladies; I can only use open-sided or spring-loaded bracelets and they are not generally sparkly, just metallic (I love sparkles).

I suppose most of us have large man-hands; yet another problem with anatomy with which the errant cross-dresser has to contend.

To take the first line of the lyrics in the song Stand By Your Man--sometimes it's hard to be a woman.

I like those bicep arm bands too, but even at my muscle-weakened age, try getting those to fit man-arms!

@rebeccabaxter

Wow! I searched and found the image you referred to.  Surely an exaggeration but I see what you mean.  You shouldn't feel so bad. My wife would sympathize with you too. I guess were the odd couple. She avoids rigid bangles for the same reason. I don't really have a problem with bangles of any kind but since most of the jewelry I wear is share with or borrowed from her there are very few rigid bangles in our collection.  We do share many open sided or elastic bracelets and bangles. There seems to be plenty of sparkly options to choose from.

Yes there are, but it always seems to be the ones that I really like are fixed circles which won't even go to the knuckle end of my big fingers. 🙁

My wife's hands are TINY. The biggest ring she wears on her fingers won't even reach the first knuckle on my little finger. They are great for getting dropped, fiddly things out of tight spaces though.

Becca

(You are right, the image is a little more exaggerated than my hands but you get the gist).

@rebeccabaxter I certainly can relate Becca.  I bought some closed ring bracelets and it wasn’t even close to getting them on my wrists.  So, I used my male self to cut a slit and file it down so that I could expand them to fit.  I actually kind of like the look.  See, males and females can work to accomplish the same things.

@rebeccabaxter The only ring I wear is my wedding ring in either mode.

I have pretty large hands so the best solutions I found for bracelets are either elasticated or wrap-style (effectively a coil).

What about making your own or finding a design that fits and spraying it in your choice of colour?

@annaredhead Make my own? I don't think that would be very successful. When I do DIY, I do it to the point of 'meh, that'll do' but when dressed, I like to look as close to perfect as I can and that means buying professionally made stuff; I certainly wouldn't try to make my own jewellery.

@rebeccabaxter I buy my bracelets from craft stalls, hand-made shops, alternative shops etc.

@annaredhead I like silver, and diamonds, or at least things that look like diamonds—you know, as I said, sparkly things. I'm a bit of a magpie really.

@rebeccabaxter Our daughter told us that she is getting interested in beading now.

You could learn how to design and make your own bracelets. You could even start a new Etsy business and sell your designs to others who have large hands. Just saying.

@rebeccabaxter 😬 I lucked out in the hands dept. I have slender fingers - so rings and fake nails are not a problem - and my hands are not tiny, but quite...foldable? I can get them through a chain-link fence.

Genetic lottery 😕

@melodeescarlet I have quite narrow feet and can get into women's shoes size 7 (UK), even though my male trainers are size 9; so long as my toes don't touch the end, I get by. Sometimes they can get a lttle tight after a long walk but not too bad.

The biggest rings on my fingers however are not narrow and my wife can almost (well, with a little exaggeration) use them as bracelets.

Perhaps I'm nearer that homunculous than I'd like. I'd kill for lips half as big though, I have none to speak of and have to work minor miracles with lip gloss.

@rebeccabaxter See? Everyone has some genetic lottery win. I got hands, you got feet. My feet are narrow, but I have to shop US 12s, which rules out the majority of the fun/cute stuff. 😕

Lips at least you can do something about. Mine are average, but I just overdraw them a bit with the lippy. 😉

A homunculus is a topographical-organised map of the proportional representation of the contralateral somatosensory or motor neurones on the cortex or passing though a part of the brain

Nope neither do I... no idea at all. However the model is somewhat hilarious.

I suppose the exaggeration of the hands depicts the reason why a male may lope forward when walking as having those hams would be hard not to knuckle scrape.

I have less than average sized hands and can buy rings that are marked XL and L that will fit. Everything else in the jewelry department is fine as is clothing and shoes, I have been blessed to be a mid range sized woman.

Yes, small wrists, large hands. I'm OK with anything but closed loops/bangles etc.
I do believe that my wrists have become smaller as I've got older. When I was younger, and has a tough, physical job as an industrial electrician, I had big strong hands and wrists to match. Now, my hands are about the same, but my wrists are that of an old man... Handy for watches though 🙂

Big hands and big feet... It's a cruel world 🙂

Becca, I've posted on this subject before but always happy to have something, however small, to gloat about. Despite being definitely a male size my hands and feet are tiny, so jewellery and shoes are no problem for me at all. Not so much help when trying to span an octave on the piano. Was just rehearsing You Never Can Tell with the band tonight and that piano solo is a real challenge. xx.

@chrisfp99 I had a friend, now sadly deceased, who could span ten notes on a standard piano—now that was a man with big hands. He also had a big heart, but in more ways than one; lovely man, great conversationalist, but he had cardiomyopathy and that's what got him in the end. He was watching a band in a local pub and his heart just ran out of beats. He put his hand to his head, said 'oh' and dropped to the floor, dead. When I go, that seems a pretty good way to do it.

Oh, and BTW, you gloat all you like, it's good for the soul.

@rebeccabaxter I'm sorry for your loss. He sounds like a good guy. A bloke playing piano on the cruise spanned ten notes regularly with his left hand. Made me jealous in some ways but it's nice to have feminine hands xx.

large hands small wrists for me.
I found that Zirconia “Tennis Bracelets” work brilliantly and are available in larger sizes. Search Tennis Bracelet on Amazon, they are not expensive and are bling for bucks.

@asteena I didn't know what a tennis bracelet was and now I've looked them up, I realise that I actually have one already; who knew?!

Luckily, I've always been very thin with medium sized hands/fingers so jewelry and rings are not a problem.

@d44 It wouldn't be so bad if my big fingers had a use but I have arthritis in my knuckles so they are past their best.
