How are you doing with the new normal? It came to Massachusetts at end of last week. I have had both my covid vaccinations so I can go to most places without a mask. I have chosen to do that. The new normal does lead to interesting experiences. I was in Walmart yesterday and some of the people were wearing masks and some were not, presumably the unvaccinated ones. Then, I saw somebody who was masked and who I recognized. This was nearly an 80 year old lady who was a neighbor of ours in the condominium complex we used to live in. I asked her why she was wearing a mask still. She told me she had the vaccinations but was still wearing mask because her low income housing complex where she lived was pushing for everybody to still wear masks. So, my question is has your state opened up and if it has, what has been your experience.

We have not fully opened up yet, without getting into politics our "leader" of our country flubbed up vaccine purchases from day 1 so it has been very slow in getting vaccines to the people in the country.

There are full reopening plans, and one of my biggest concerns is going back to work physically.

My new normal is I am hoping work will give people the flexibility to wfh permanently (job dependent of course).  After wfh for over a year, I like it.  I save an incredible amount of money by having zero commute, and on top of all that save time - again zero commute.  I also save on food as I don't have to pack a lunch, and I can get away with buying low cost lunches that I can easily make at home (like grilled cheese sandwiches).  Our load of laundry is incredibly small as I don't have any work clothes to wash.

CDing wise, it is great as I can dress and go to work at the same time.  I am hoping that will be the new normal, being allowed to wfh.

I live in the state of Georgia and most things have been back to normal for months (although we still had masks in many places). As soon as the CDC dropped the mandate for vaccinated people the masks pretty much came off entirely except for those choosing to keep it. I am not one of those choosing to keep it and therefore ditched it as soon as the CDC dropped it. Went into Home Depot and the grocery store that afternoon without the mask. I'm done with it.

Hi Alice,

All shops here in Wales want you to wear a mask, but new more lax guidelines may be introduced soon - or not, depending on the state of play. In my little town, there's a fair few folks now not wearing masks out and about.

Even though I'm fully vaccinated, I still prefer to wear a mask in more crowded places. I don't challenge younger folk who quite obviously won't have been 'done', but neither do I want to be challenged as to why I am wearing a mask - I'm afraid I'm a bit pessimistic about all these new variants that are in the mix, I'd rather play it safer.

When this all started I bought enough masks to last at least two years. I plan on wearing them until they run out regardless of what the clowns in charge say. I'm still waiting for the vaccinations which has been a cluster you know what as well.

Well I had my second vaccination today, but i still wear a mask when i go into the shops and i still stick to the social distancing, just because I've no intention of catching this virus,

I don't wear a mask when I'm outside in the open,

What i can't understand is why it is they stopped us from travelling in our cars a car is a mobile self isolation unit if you have all the windows and doors shut how can you transmit or catch the virus,

It doesn't matter if you travel 5 or 500 miles you can only get the virus if interact with other people,

It's just a thought x

The state of Iowa has dropped all the mandates a couple week ago about the time the federal gov said if you have had your vaccinations you can drop the mask. Most around here no longer wear the mask and neither do I ( I've been fully vaccinated for 7 weeks). Except my work where the mask is still required.

I'm glad Iowa has removed the restrictions and at my work I dont have to wear it. Wearing one during this time was ok for me. Made it easier to look feminine

Here in California most people stopped wearing masks when the CDC made their announcement a few weeks ago.  This has created a lot of problems for retailers since the state is requiring masks in most indoor public spaces until June 15th.  I have seen several verbal confrontations between customers and store staff.  Then there's CAL-OSHA, which has mandated masks at most work sites until at least July 31st.  At my work place, where more than 80% of staff are fully vaccinated, masks must still be worn for the foreseeable future.  Personally I don't mind.  Wearing a mask is a small inconvenience compared to the draconian restrictions I had to comply with during the worse of the pandemic.

Believe it or not the state I live in, Oklahoma, never had a statewide mandate.  Only mandates were at the municipal level.  Those have all been lifted.  Thankfully our Covid infections are very low and declining.  It got scary for a while.

the notable holdout is our little area, besides obviously medical facilities, is the post office...still requiring masks. Can't blame them and don't mind.they are shortstaffed and the lobby is but 8 by 10.

My big relief was actually being able to accompany my  neurotic cat into the vet's office. Since Covid, my former vet would not allow pet owners in with their animals, mask or not. they had to be picked up in the parking lot and taken in and out by assistants, who relayed visit results.Changed to another vet who allows pets to be accompanied, much happier.

We are taking our cat to Vet on 6/12 - the stay in the parking lot routine still applies here too.
