I used to kid my wife that there were more photos of the two grandkids taken within 24 hours of them being born - than there were of me in my entire lifetime up to them being born. By a long shot too! Of course, back in our day photos weren’t the thing they are now. And the difference of course was no cell phones. Quality photos used to be a planned out, semi-expensive thing for people to have done. And our family just wasn’t into it hence, not a lot of pictures from my prior years even survived. Maybe half an album’s worth?
So it was quite surprising to me when I was screening Grace’s latest photo shoot for publication purposes. She has more pictures of herself than I have of me! In less than 2 months!!! WTH??? What an ego! That chick’s vanity is out of control! How many pictures does that girl need? Apparently more - because she’ll probably have another photo shoot next weekend. L-O-L!!!
Seriously, what is it with us girls and all these pictures? We can’t get enough can we? We want to try all the outfits, all the looks. And then get pics of ourselves and look at them, crop them, add them to an album. Figure out where we went wrong in the ones getting sent to the trash. Checking out where the best lighting is. Figuring out the best ones in order to post them on CDH. What fun! I don’t know why I love doing it - I just do. I love seeing the other girls on here as well, the more the merrier! Where’s the first place we go on CDH? Photos!
As I’m typing I figured out why the huge disparity of pictures between Grace and ****. She’s way better looking!🤣

I was trying to work out what swear word you have asterisked out and why before I realised why it was there 🙂
I do have a lot of photos of myself as Becca in the various stages of my CD development, from badly-dressed, bearded original to my more self-confident and [I like to think] elegant self now. Perhaps we take these selfies because we like the way we look and/or we want to be sure we look ok to others; who knows. One thing I'm certain of: although I have many pictures of myself, they are far outnumbered by the sheer quantity of photographs of my dogs!
I think I need lessons in photography. And smiling xx.
I agree with your assessment, Grace, I’ve got way more photos of myself dressed. I never thought that I took good photos as a male, but I think that Jennifer is also way better looking than my alter ego.
I guess I like to document my journey, although the last few months I have been taking less photos of myself and just getting on with my day. I tend to use a camera with a tripod and self timer, so setting it up takes time (plus finding an outdoor spot where the lighting and background are good).
It also depends on how you count. I mean, even 10 seconds of an 8mm film of me when I was a kid is (technically) 240 photos!
I tend not to toss photos unless the shots are horrific (lighting so bad that I'm not recognizable). I'll just tuck everything away on an external drive. As you say, digital photos are cheap, memory is cheap, and you can instantly see if the photo came out so bad (bad lighting or exposure, bad pose, decapitating your head) that you should take it again.
I too have waaay more photos of Fiona than I ever had of the male me. I always hated having my picture taken but now love it. There are two main reasons why:
1. It's useful to get feedback on all your efforts to emulate a woman. It's not easy and it's nice to be reassured that your heading in the right direction with everything.
2. By publishing photos we're are saying to the world - "Look, here's the real me!" It helps validate what we're doing.
