So, I had some errands to run... and one of them took me past a nearby thrift store that I have had great success with. I was brousing through the ladies blouses and slacks when I heard a faint voice whisper to me (picture the sound of a freight train) "look on the dress rack". Well, when clothes talk to me, I tend to listen... (oh the things that they say...). I looked for the rack with the clothing in my size (don't ask!), and then I started sliding the hangers aside till I happen upon the garment which had been screaming my name. It was a 70's mod knee length multi color in my size... and I already had all of the accessories to make this work.
I draped the fine article over my arm and as I turned towards the checkout, a voice from the back of the store directed me to the shoes. There, with a white glow around them were a pair of 3" wedge sandals that were to die for .... they fit perfectly to!. I made my purchases in haste and couldn't wait to get home to try these beauties on...after a quick fitting I did indeed confirm that they were exactly what I needed.
As it happens, my SO was going to be away at a sporting event in a couple days (I guess we are in an DADT kind of relationship) so I made preparations for a day of shopping and fun in my new dress. The morning of the big day (there have been too few of them lately) I was showered and shaved my legs, underarms and other necessary areas and had my makeup on by 7:30 AM!
After a bit of fussing with my new wig and deciding which shoes to wear (a girl always has a hard time with that one), & an obligatory selfie, I was out the door for a great day of being me.
It is simply amazing what a $5.00 dress can do for ones outlook for the day!
Hugs, MaryAnn.
It must have been a wonderful day for you Mary Ann. You must have looked very smart in you newly purchased clothes.
Those darn thrift stores indeed! You did well, darling! My wife and I terrorized a Salvation Army store today to the tune of about $130 or so. Mostly we found things for her, but I did well too, including finding a pretty fox fur coat for $40 and a couple of tops for a pair of wide leg "harem pants" I've had a hard time finding the right colors for. It's a great deal, can't lose, until you buy half of everything in sight that is...

Sounds fantastic MaryAnn. And then did you hear a voice whispering, “You look gorgeous, dahling.”?
Maybe it’s just the time of year, but there seem to be a lot of good finds at the thrift stores (charity shops) right now. I also got really great things at two different St Vinny’s this week. I did not however, hear voices. I will be more attentive next time.

That dress is definitely you and no wonder it screamed for you to own it. I like that style to being of that age. I still like going into thrift stores as you never know what you will find. Enjoy your days out...
Mary Ann.

Thrift stores....and those voices....thank God it's not just me!!!

Patty,
Goodwill stores in Kentucky must have enough staff to have the dressing rooms open.
Here in north Georgia/Atlanta area Goodwill stores have not had the their dressing rooms open in almost two years now! Fortunately, they have a 14-day return policy, with receipt. They've also turned donating into a nasty experience so much so that people are turning to other charitable agencies.
I continue to shop their stores though, because of the prices and large selection, also senior and military discounts.
Oh listening to that voice in your head and I know it well. I too just love going to thrift shops and finding such bargains and also retro clothes that you cant find in stores these days. I am sure with all the charities that run thrift shops I have built a hospital by now.
"I am sure with all the charities that run thrift shops I have built a hospital by now." Hilarious!
Too funny. Thanks.
I confess, I'm a thrift shop bandit. My partner & I regularly have a day at a nearby larger town doing the thrift stores& we have had some wonderful finds. My latest treasure, a peasant style maxi skirt, cross that off my list, yes, I have a list. Happy hunting gurls.xx
