One of my bosses used the phrase ‘thoughts while shaving’ for random work thoughts that did not fit nicely into any other category.  I have plagiarized the phrase and feminized it.

Today’s thoughts while shaving my legs are about Hailey Davidson.  She is a transgender amateur golfer who recently qualified to play in the Lady’s Professional Golf Association (LPGA).  Hailey is not the first trans professional athlete.  There have been many before her but because of today’s instant access to news she is getting more attention than those who went before her.  On our local social media bulletin board there has been discussion about the fairness of her competing against genetic girls (although that is not the terminology used).    So the bulletin board original discussion point was – is it fair?  There is no easy answer methinks.  Certainly not answerable is a bumper sticker kind of way.  I am trying to be objective and look at both sides of the coin – to coin a phrase.

Fair to other lady golfers?  Generally speaking (lots of exceptions but normally normally normally) genetic born males are bigger, stronger, faster, and have been trained to be athletes from early childhood (Pee Wee sports, little league, etc).  Genetic born females are smaller, weaker, slower, and not nurtured in sports.  Again, lots of exceptions I know.  Even though Hailey has gone thru transition I expect there are still some residual male traits.  So maybe she has an advantage.

Fair to Hailey?  She has been thru the transition process, HRT and surgeries have reduced her strength and ability (so she says), has been thru who knows how many procedures to achieve womanhood, and meets the LPGA criteria for qualification as a female amateur and professional golfer.  So maybe even if she has an advantage she should be allowed to play as a pro.

The bulletin board discussion quickly went to the gutter.  Ugly, vile, sexist, and misogynist comments directed specifically toward Hailey, generally toward trans people, morphed to the LGBT community, and even crossed over to racism.  I am soooo disappointed that we can’t have a civil discussion about a complex issue without turning to ugliness.  Makes me sad.

I don’t know what the answer is.  Hopefully our grandkids will deal with these type issues more civilly.  Thoughts?

Im going to answer this sorta with my Retired Marine mentality. So bear with it.

THe Marine Corps is now allowing women recruits to join what was previously an all male boot camp. IMHO if they can get through it great let em serve as combat Marine's. Having been in that position I kind of know what they can expect. How are the male recruits handling it? So far according to the info Ive read, (official USMC stuff) it's been going better than HQ Marine Corps thought it would.

As to transgender, in sports as you were talking about. If the LPGA or any other womens group doesn't have a problem with I don't. Is is fair? Another question all together. I'm not the person to decide that, I would think Hailey would have some pluses and some missus having transitioned, not having gone through that procedure I can't honestly make a decision.

And I often also have these discussions with myself while shaving legs.

Hi Elaine Putting politics aside Please. My belief now is if HRT is started early at or around puberty without any surgery and the HRT is a part of the young girls life then it every thing should be equal. Its only I believe it gets  a little blurry for me when HRT is started later in life after body frame and muscle mass have already developed.  Great subject to talk about but too political for me.

I'm absolutely not getting into any discussion about MTF athletes competing. It's far too complicated a sublect.
However, SHAVING MY LEGS!!!
Who the heck does that anymore!
Years before i started to crossdress I started to Epilate.
I had smooth legs years before i crossdressed.
My wife & I are Naturists & one day at camp a fellow member asked me "do you shave your armpits?" I replied "I shave everywhere!"
I Epilate everywhere I can bear the pain. Otherwise Nair is my friend.

If the governing organization says it's kosher, who is in a position to tell them no? It's cool with me.
