Hi girls,

Well... "spring has sprung" today down here in Oz and its been too warm for me to wear my 80 denier tights "to protect my arthritic knee from the cold". (Note to SO, "that's my story and I'm sticking with it!!" ).

So I tried panty hose again....And again... they would not stay up without  pins into my cami. (Ah.... the joys of "femulating!!)

By contrast, with most brands of tights from 40denier up, I dont have this problem!!

Perhaps its my (ahem) "expanding figure" at the tops of both, but the tights dont slip there or even seem to slip down my (hairy) legs as much.

Now for sure, I'd like to be clean shaven all over and that may help with the "PH".

But..."Questions would be asked in the House"

Anybody else have this problem??

Happy (hosiery) dressing

Caty

I dislike both - much prefer stay-up stockings (wear them even in winter), but in summer prefer bare legs.  Sorry Caty but I don't have an issue with hairy legs any more now that I'm a mature lady. When I was younger then had to shave legs regularly, but now only very occasionally.

I assume that you have tried a suspender (or garter) belt to hold up your stockings ?

Good luck.

Yes Michelle,

Love my "Sussy belts" and lace top stockings. Cant get "stay ups to "Stay up" either, hence the suspender belts.

The sight of the tabs peeking "just south" of a lacy pair of french knickers, sets this old girls heart "a flutter".

It may well be the language barrier Caty but I can't understand the question? Panty hose are tights, right?

What is Australian for stockings?  Have you confused the two?  Have I confused the two?

Anybody else have this problem??........Sally?

I've been wearing pantyhose since I was 4. I've also worn other kinds of leg wear like tights. In the US, pantyhose are considered sheers and tights are opaque. More often then not the tights are just a heavier fabric than the pantyhose.

When measured in denier, pantyhose can go from very sheer and a low denier number like 8, up to around 50. At that denier number, they become opaque and are called tights.

Hi Sally,

As Patty says, down here we followed the US in naming sheers pantyhose and anything above 40 denier, opaques .

Stockings are stockings everywhere and a suspender/(garter) belt sits nicely on top of my (ahem) tummy roll.. So thats why for practical and comfort reasons I prefer them.

Glueing stay ups to my legs does not "grab me", (Boom!! Tish!!) at all. Sounds yucky

Tho just to confuse things, here in OZ I have heard women refer to their pantyhose as stockings!!

Confused?

Hugs to all

Caty

To answer Caty's question, I wear pantyhose all the time. Some brands fit and stay stay up better than others. The best fitting ones have a sewn in elastic waist and have a high rise to the panty. You just have to try different brands (which are limited in this era) to find what fits. I have probably tried 50 different brands in my lifetime.

Hi Caty I wear pantyhose most days and don't get a lot of trouble with them slipping down.I mostly wear inexpensive suoermarket brands that come in packs of five. They arr reasonably durable.Normally withstand a few wears. The ones I have trouble with slipping are the slightly more expensive ones from the UK Marks And Spencers stores. This is a great pity.Their quality has taken a real dip in the last couple of years.Apart from slipping down they don't look as good as they used to.Their nearly black range used to look lovely.I have started to have problems with their once reliable 40 and 60 denier range.I buy them in medium but ought to be thinking about going up a size as they seem to sag even on the first wear.I had a lovely 3 pair pack of black opaque tights from there but they started to ladder.I rarely have trouble with black tights laddering even with cheap brands.Boots the chemist in the UK have nice 2 pair packd of 40 denier tights.Always very flattering on my legs.

Hi Caty, got confused as usual (tights/pantyhose), have you tried suspender tights, a compromise between stockings & tights?

Personally hate tights, burnt mine and sent the Ashes to Lords!

Gillian,

I seem to remember trying one pair of "suspender tights", but dont remember why  I did not like them.

Happy with some later brands I just bought of "thick pantyhose"/tights/stickings". Nice wide band on top!!

(Who was that Pommie bloke who said "What's in a name"? Opening bat for the Theatre XI wasn't he....).

So I'll stick with the "thick ph/tights" and all will be well.

Hi Caty,

I know we have discussed this many times, but I do love my hosiery.  I love wearing my stockings, either Fully Fashioned Seamed pointe heel stockings with  a suspender belt or plain lace top hold ups (with silicone bands).

But for daily casual wear, I do tend to wear my opaque tights during the colder months or 15den sheer pantyhose when it is warmer.  I generally buy pantyhose with elastine or a little lycra in them and make sure they fit in the leg....extra tall for this girl.  Once I have pulled them on correctly....do follow the instructions.... and the gusset fits well into the crotch, the panty will then fit into place.

If they slip at the crotch, then the legs are too small.  If they slip at the waist, then perhaps fuller panty should be used.

I wear thigh high tights with a garter to hide my hairy legs. My friend Maria looked up my skirt one time and said "You naughty, you a naughty girl". Yes, yes I am, I love the garter look, rare(cat sound).

😀😀😀
