I have had the opportunity to travel this year and have found that wearing my bra entitles me to an extra search both from the TSA at home and at overseas airports as well. To begin the story I decided to wear a bra every day 24/7 several years ago. I had worn bras over the years but was much more careful about when and where I wore them. (I have been wearing lace/satin bikinis for most of my adult life.) The decision to wear a bra everyday has initiated a good discussion with my SO. She knew about the bikinis but the bra was new. She is supportive in a theoretical sense but stresses the need for me to be discrete.
Going to the airport where I know I am subject to scrutiny was an easy choice for me. Since I decided to wear a bra every day I have had a feeling of freedom that I am sure all of you here understand. It is so liberating when you stop worrying about what others may think. I realize that when I am in public (I do not fully cross dress but present as a man in public at all times) people may notice that I am wearing a bra but I am not going to change who I am. So I going to the airport with a bra was no big deal for me. As I went through the scanners over the past few months, at a number of different airports, I was directed to the side every time for an additional pat down. Several times I was able to see my image and there were "hot spots" across my back where the bra fastens. What I have discovered is that the body scanners are programmed for men and women so that when a woman goes through the agent pushes one button and another if it is a man. This easily explains why women, and I assume most are wearing bras, were not specifically stopped while for me a bra that fastens in the back would be flagged on the body scanners. This last time the TSA agent even said the pat down agent "just had to pat down my back." On one of my overseas pat downs the agent was really feeling my across the front and back and I could tell by the look of puzzlement that he knew he was feeling something different. I blurted out "it is an undergarment" and he then let me pass. I do not expect to travel for a little while but I am prepared for more searches. I suppose if it looks like there is a problem I will either just say to the agent that I am wearing a bra or if it appears they are still concerned I think I would have to ask to be taken to a private screening area and they can see for themselves. I know I could travel without the bra but I like who I am and after years of hiding I feel better about myself these past few years when I freely wear my bras-airport security be d***ed!
Hi Robin,
I just returned from a trip to my home state with my wife. We flew and I did not underdress but a past surgery for a joint replacement is cause for the special scanner and a pat down. I can certainly understand your position and I do know that if I had worn a bra I would have been livid, embarrassed and upset all at once. If I read correctly the TSA people were pleasant and courteous while patting you down. That is promising to those of us who have not flown while wearing anything feminine least of all a bra. So I wonder if a front closure bra without underwire would have tripped any alarms in the scan.....especially if the closure is plastic and the strap adjusters too. These are my preferred style of bra so I might have gone right through. You have a courage which I do not have at this time but with the support of my wife some day I will. TTFN💋👠

Getting patted down is pretty much part of the routine for me. The last trip it was the zipper and closure for my slacks - both coming and going. If I wear support hose it's my lower legs. Sometimes it seems random - sleeves, back of my neck, etc.
After a few years of this I just figure I trip a profile, wear things that the sensors don't like, or just happen to be the 32nd person in line and thus get randomly checked.
I've learned, mostly, to give myself a few extra minutes to catch my flights. And to be polite to the people who have to deal with thousands of folks every day who really don't want to be subjected to these things.
Of course, if I'm feeling particularly cranky, or just want to be a little annoying, I carry my steel Penn & Teller copy of the part of the U.S. Constitution that prohibits unreasonable search and seizure...

Lol Millie! Where did you get the Penn & Teller copy of the illegal search and seizure at? Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! That would drive them nuts, I love it. 🤗 hugs💋👠

Went to Las Vegas a few years ago and saw their show at the Rio. (I highly recommend it and suggest you pay for the better seats downstairs in the main area - you can see much better.) After the show they come out to the lobby and take selfies and talk with everyone. The gift shop has the credit-card size copy of the 4th amendment. Penn signed mine.

Millie,
That is soo cool. I haven't been to Las Vegas in about 15 years now and at least 15 years before that. 30 years ago the new strip ended at the Oasis which no longer exists. The Oasis was on the next block down from where Ceasars Palace is. So now the new strip goes to the airport or at least it did. Love the thought of driving the TSA nuts. Hugs

I have travelled several times over tha past year wearing what I find most comfortable. I have never had any issues passing through security. As long as my boarding pass matches my passport, TSA agents have never said anything or given me any more scrutiny than my fellow travellers. My most recent trip was in mid August. I traveled in a skirt and tee, which is definitely the most comfortable way to travel.

I was traveling this summer
I was wearing panties and my toes were painted but i had ona knee brace
had to go to private room
i had on womens skinny jeans so i had to pull my pants down exposing my colorful cheeky panties
2 guy checked the brace but i got no funny looks or comments
i think theyve seen it all
Danielle
Thanks for the reply. I really was not upset as I knew that was the "price" to pay. I am sure I was not the only one going through security with a bra and I am sure they have seen it all. They were professional about it here in the USA. Although one agent in another country really gave me a pat down and even ran his finger inside the waistband of my pants. I am not sure if he was also looking in-if he did I hope he enjoyed what he saw. I do have several pull over bras but no front closures yet. However the back closing ones are my favorite and as I said above I am done with the past. I am going to wear what I love!! Have a good day.

How wonderfully passive aggressive to carry the Constitution! I also love your attitude about "tripping" the sensors. Next time I might go ahead and wear a garter belt to have some more fun.

Hi Robin,
Eventually I will get to that point where I won’t have a care whether anyone knows or not. You are right and I hadn’t thought about it but I am sure there were GGs on the flight who had back closure bras that tripped the scanner too. I am also sure that they have seen it all with a job like that they see a thousand people in a day I would guess so no surprises for them. You have a wonderful attitude about it all and I do hope some day I too will have an attitude like yours and also the strength and conviction to go with it! TTFN💋👠

Thanks for posting this! I’ve always underdressed; well before 9/11 and the introduction of the TSA and related protocol I remember flying from MA to CA with a garter, stockings and matching bra underneath drab. Career changes limited my air travel and until recently most of my travel has been with family or co-workers and I’ve been reluctant to do anything to bring attention to myself. I recently started a new job and I’m doing more solo travel. Kim is definitely a much more central part of me, and I’m taking full opportunity to bring her along! My bags definitely get more attention; I have not gone full femme yet on the plane, but waist-down I’m in my panties and femme skinny jeans...yesterday I did get the pat down...really thinking about wearing yoga tights on my next trip!
thanks again for this post!!
