Well it’s that time again. Has it really been 10 years since the last Census.

Remember one thing from the last one, a big rise in numbers who put Jedi down as their religion.

I wonder (given its 2021) what the gender choices will be! Will I just be an ‘other’ after male and female, or will there be more choices? Can’t wait!

Remember it will be 100 years before any personal links to the data you input will be released.

Ha!

My wife filled my form out for me, as I struggle with forms (The ones you have to fill in, of course!).

I simply nodded or commented on the answers until it got to gender.

Despite her being an "advocate of gender diversity" at her workplace, and my protestations, she put me down as male.

I think it's really unhelpful to put inaccurate information on the census.

Hi Laura,

That's a really good example of the census's shortcoming regarding the 'gender' question. It's one form per household. In your case, your wife decided what to put for you.

But in other circumstances, if someone has not come out to even one member of the household, it would be quite inhibiting to state your perceived gender - unless they could contrive to be the last one to fill out their section and immediately seal the form in the envelope.

I filled out mine online, as a single occupant, so hadn't thought about it before. I suspect the same concerns apply to that method too.

So at least some, and maybe a lot of under reporting can be expected in this census.

I filled out (or did I fill in) the form online for my household which meant that I could be honest about my gender identity.

It is a strange position to be in but at this point in time the statisticians, who supposedly turn this stuff into planning for the next 10 years, have more accurate information than my SO!

You can request an individual code and enter your data separately, and nobody else in the household needs to know you did that and won't find out:

It will overwrite your entry in the household data.

There were only two genders and had to be based on birth or GRS certification.

You could declare that you are Transgender. Better than nothing and a compromise to the arguments raging at the moment.
