[Closed] UK Supreme Court Ruling

I am sure that many of you are aware of yesterday's Supreme Court ruling in the UK. To cut to the heart of the thing, it said that trans women are not included in the definition of 'women' within the Equalities Act. This will have far-reaching repercussions.

We understand that many members want to air their views about this. It is also understandable that they should choose to do so on the CDH forums. The Supreme Court ruling was, after all, a legal decision and not a political one.

However it is is easy to see how discussing the issues involved will very quickly draw in political opinion. Passions are currently running high and views will quickly become polarised, especially once the situation in the US is drawn into the debate.

We try and steer clear of political debate on the site, and we consider that in this situation it won't be long before it rears its head. We have seen similar things happen many times in the Forums.

We therefore respectfully ask that you refrain from starting threads on this issue. We have already had to close down four such threads since the Supreme Court decision. Any others will be removed without warning.

For the record, I feel extremely conflicted about requesting this. I'm in the UK, and I'm trans. The decision has hit me hard. However, it's also important that we abide by the rules of the site. They're there for a good reason, and they help to maintain CDH as a safe oasis from everything that's going on the world.
