I have been prescribed finasteride to try to stop my overly-large prostate growing, or even shrink it somewhat, and one of the side effects is the possibility of enlarged breasts -- I wonder if I  can get them up to a D cup, save a lot of money on breast forms!! Every cloud... Smile

@rebeccabaxter Wow Rebecca, that is indeed a great upside to the medication.  Let us know if it really works.

Hope the medication works for the primary issue too.

All the best, hugs

Christine

Hi, Becca, snap! I was also prescribed Finesteride, same reason. I didn't notice these particular side effects, I was more concerned about possible psychiatric or psychological effects! More research for me then before I decide whether to take them or not.

@rebeccabaxter  I took it for some time. No breast growth. It did not work on my prostate either. Ended up with laser  treatment.  That was successful. Best, Marlene.

Long story of urine retention, A&E at Derriford, UTIs, CT and MRi scans, a biopsy (no cancer, this time) and a prostate the size of a small orange. But, so far, I'm ok, thank you for saying.

X

Interesting side effect! Finally one that is really a benefit, for us at least.😊

That’s a common treatment option to prevent prostate problems and many people do report some breast development.   Toss in a bit of estrogen and who knows, you might get those breasts after all 🙂

It is a known side effect but only effects a few and some have found it's one sided!

There are other not so pleasant risks associated with this medication and a review has recently taken place as to its use. I am sure your G.P knows what is best for you and it has a double D result for you.

Yes, I am aware of the possible effects, both cancer-wise and sexual. In the first instance, I am seventy, something's going to get me sooner or later, none of us leave this life alive. In the second example, I have no libido to speak of anyway so it would be that lack of desire or ED are no great loss  -- rules out the need for a gaff, so yet another upside 🙂
